Hi All,
I have a Peugoust 5008 203 1.6 HDi with a ECG gearbox
A couple of weeks ago I got the "Gearbox Faulty" message on the display followed by it being impossible to shift into any gear.
Selecting any gear briefly flashes the selected gear on the display (R, A1 etc) before dropping back to N
I haven't checked the actuator fluid not sure how I can do this I am hoping to drop the car off at the mechanics very soon. Could this be simply low gearbox oil level? I didn't see any obvious leaks.
I have Diagbox and getting fault code is P0868. A quick search here points to low hydraulic oil pressure.
I’ve attached a screenshot as I don't fully understand it.
Any suggestions or pointers for further analysis would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

Okay, it's as I thought, so code descriptors are as above.
It really needs a dealer check here as these systems are specialist and need specialist knowledge to deal with to be honest. It may be that checking the actuator oil levels if too low may solve the other issue - so that's a first step. The oil level can be seen on the oil level bottle on the system - but you you cannot just top this up, as the system MUST be depressurised first before the oil quantity is checked and refilled, which requires professional level diagnostics and special oil.
So my advice would be get it to a dealer as they have all the equipment and this may save money in the long run taking it from garage to garage (for those who will even touch these).

Thanks I think this is beyond my basic car mechanic knowledge, I have heard so many bad things about these EGG gearboxes just going to get it fixed and get rid of this car.

I ran Diagbox to check the Hydralic pressure of the gearbox I can see when the car is in N it seems to be bouncing between 38 bars to 60, it shoots up and slowly comes back down (screenshot attached)
When I change gears I can see this pressure bar dropping to 20 and then shoots back up to around 60 basically bouncing between 20 to 60 bars (screenshot attached)

is there anything that I could look at? perhaps it needs a top up of oil? it would be useful to see diagram of the ECG gearbox and its components I can see there is a reservoir is this something I can check for fluid levels?

If the pressure is bouncing around, I would guess the the fluid has leaked out and the pump is mostly pumping air.
Look for oil stains.

Thanks I had a quick look from the top of engine couldn't see anything all seems pretty dry I am planning to tow the car to the mechanics tomorrow his pretty familiar with these ECG gearboxes most mechanics don't understand them and do not want to touch them.xantia_v6 wrote: 13 Jun 2024, 13:10 If the pressure is bouncing around, I would guess the the fluid has leaked out and the pump is mostly pumping air.

I have managed to locate the reservoir does look like I have a leak somewhere. The current level is just below the minimum, I wonder if I could top this up which would allow me drive this to garage instead of towing it

The level is only correct when depressurised, however if you switch the ignition on and it goes down to almost empty then sticking a bit more in might work.

Any ideas what the specification of oil I need? I cannot see Eurocarparts or GFS selling itRichardW wrote: 13 Jun 2024, 18:20 The level is only correct when depressurised, however if you switch the ignition on and it goes down to almost empty then sticking a bit more in might work.

Thanks that's seems very expensive for 1L of oil, will have a look around see if I can find it at more reasonable price, the specification from what I can see is "9979A4"GiveMeABreak wrote: 13 Jun 2024, 20:17 You need this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166098390783 ... d_source=1

From what I can see Comma AQ3 meets the 9979 A4 specification and GSF sell this for £10.37, GSF is very local to me I will double check with them in the morning.
