2012 Citroen c5x7 front windscreen wash

Unread post by deckoil »

Hi, can anyone advise if the same pump serves the front windscreen and the headlight wash. I don't have windscreen water but do have headlight wash. I have checked pipework and nothing seems obviously blocked but no water to the windows.

The same reservoir, but there may be a different or separate pump for the headlamp wash as it has to provide more pressure to activate the rams.
The other pump operates the front and rear screen wash.

Thanks, that's a help in working out how to fix it. Any idea how to get to the main pump or if it's an easy swap?

I edited my last post as I've had another look and it's not 100% clear regarding the pump situation. The reservoir is the same, but there are distinct pumps for headlamp wash (with the separate tubing from the pump to the rams) and fitted level sensors to the reservoir and the one shown for front wash.

In either case, to access it I believe you need to remove the inner wheel arch lining on the front right side to get access. I don't have a repair guide, but if you need a current official part number or part diagram, please see below (I have your VIN already):
We can help if you need an original, genuine part number or part diagram, and can't already find the info you need on the Forum. Thanks for following up Marc. Sounds a bit tricky. I wonder if it's possible to switch the output to the headlight wash to feed the windscreen. That might be the easiest fix.

Not recommended as this is a different pump and will likely be too high pressure for the windscreen wash - as the higher pressure pump is used to drive out the headlamp washer rams and the pressure for the headlamp jets...

Well I decided to try switching the headlamp wash to feed the windscreen as it was easy to reverse. There are two feeds to the headlights, one each. I just used one so not taking all the pressure. With two windscreen outlets, it seems to work and I dont miss the headlamp wash. If it goes wrong in time, I'll post here.

I think in the UK MOT test some lights that are bright (HID ?) legally need working headlight washers, otherwise it would fail the test. If this applies in Australia and if you have a similar test then at some point the washers will need fixing rather than bodging.
