My Laptop is an old Acer Media, XP Home, pack 3, Celeron 420 (1.6 Ghz) with 2Gb ram.
Should i be able to download the fault logs, as I can leave the laptop connected to the car for ages, over 20 minutes, and the fault logs do not load, just sits there on the 'waiting' screen? I have to end the session via alt/ctrl/delete.
Also, Diagbox takes at least ½ hour sometimes to shut down, even if i have not asked for the fault logs! .
Is my laptop upto the job or do i need another?
As a aside, i also see communication errors occasionally when carrying out a diagnostic test.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Fault logs
When was the last time you did a disk cleanup or defrag? Do the cleanup first (making sure to do the system files as well, so you made need to do it twice). If the HDD is very cluttered it can apply the brakes to Windows!

Re: Fault logs
It'll be the laptop - it's well under par and some of that memory will no doubt be shared with the on-board graphics, as it likely won't have a dedicated graphics card with separate memory, so added to the already weak performance, it's not going to cut the mustard Stu, defrag or no defrag. The Celeron is also a cut down version of Intel's Pentium processor, so a double whammy.

Re: Fault logs
It would depend on what version of diagbox you are using but as Marc has said Celeron is a lite version of Intel 3. You just need a basic laptop that has Intel 3 processer then you should be able to run all versions of diagbox depending on where you bought it from. Don't get a top of the range laptop for it, an Intel 3 should run it all as it's 64bit as it were....As for communication errors, mine shows C8 and C8 CAN, C8 gets errors but C8 CAN works, are you certain your selecting the right model? also is your version compatible with your vehicle?

Re: Fault logs
I am running my Lexia kit with a Toshiba NB250, with an Intel Atom 1.67Ghz processor, 2GB RAM, and Windows 7 Starter. The Lexia is a Rev B unit, with DiagBox v7.15, and it runs happily on the notebook. The only issue I recently had was a severely reduced battery life (which has been resolved now I managed to get a heavy duty battery). Apart from the usual issue with the system sometimes not communicating initially with the kit I have had no problems with it. I do rund Disk Cleanup and Defrag regularly, but that is usual for my and my computers.

Re: Fault logs
Thanks Guys,
When I said comms errors, I do not mean Vehicle to Laptop, I mean then errors I running the diagnostic session, for example, yesterday I have a suspension fault, cleared the faults I run all the actuator tests perfect, then another global test, not a suspension fault but the ESP/ABS text was in red, saying communication error, so I run another Global test, without doing anything, and all fine!!
Just another question why did I see this "Non traduit. Ne doit pas figurer dans PPD" which translates to "Untranslated should not be in PPD" Glitch!?
If I power-up and shut down without connecting my car, it behaves as expected, it just hangs when shutting down after I have run a diagnostic session - so yes the system is getting full of junk data.
Diagbox V7 76 8_12 from a link from Marc. (Up to 7.74 supplied with my Rev-C Kit)

Cheers Marc, I will have to look around to see what I can get, it definitely won't be new. So I need to look for an Intel 3 (minimum with) 2GB Ram running Windows 7 .

Re: Fault logs
Just stick to 7.62 Stu, that worked fine for me.
Get the best you can on your budget, but I would certainly look for 4Gb RAM as 2Gb is really going to creak at the seams. If going for an older system running Win 7 32 Bit these can utilise up to 3.5Gb RAM, on all 32 bit versions apart from the 'Starter' edition.
I really would not recommend 2Gb at all. AND essential if you have on-board graphics which will also take a chunk out of the available RAM, so this is where it all falls down. A 4Gb system will allow on-board graphics to take a chunk of RAM without affecting system performance and allowing more physical RAM for running programmes instead of virtual RAM which is swapped in and out using disk space and is far slower.
