Our DS5 is 7 years old, but it spent 4 of those in Scotland unfortunately, which is likely to be a bad thing. I saw it underneath when having some work done at a garage and was concerned to see quite a lot of surface rust. My intention is to keep this car as long as possible until it stops working, and it looks like the underside would be the limiting factor.
I've seen KevTee's YouTube channel, he drives around in a truck picking up cars that are being scrapped. Many look immaculate, but have failed their MOT due to rust underneath. So I decided that a spray of Waxoyl underneath may be a good investment. I know it's normally used on classic cars, not modern ones, but mine's getting rusty fast. This cost all of £144 all-in, which seemed like a bargain to me, they emailed before/after photos too...
I don't care about resale value, this is all about lifespan as the next owner after us will be a scrapyard, in as many years as possible.
My 9 year old Berlingo was done at the same time. It's basically the same platform and mileage, but we've had it from new. It was much less rusty. So either living in Scotland was the issue or DS5's were made from rubbish metal for some reason. Comparison below...
...also a lesson in just how similar two utterly different looking cars can be underneath, due to platform sharing.
Any thoughts? All good or have I ruined it?

Re: DS5 + Waxoyl
I would say this issue is probably down to gritted roads in Scotland rather than build quality, waxoyl would help any car/metal as long as your not trying to paint over it

Thanks for that, the £144 I paid sounds like even better value against that alternative!Hell Razor5543 wrote: 13 Jun 2023, 18:49 Just so long as what happened to RichardW does not happen to you. 5th post in this thread;

I started out googling underseal, there seem to be various modern designer products available these days, made out of sheep lanolin and other nonsense. I think I saw a price of £600 for treatment with this special super stuff. So when I got the quote from the place I went to I jumped at it.
I went to a place that does restoration of classics, thought they'd be the people who'd be used to using the stuff.
Good to know that others are still using it.
