Can you guess what I am up to today?

Unread post by Rhothgar »

Can anyone guess the correlation between a non-functioning Oregon Scientific Weather Station and a non-functioning Xantia temperature display?

I seem to recall Oregon Scientific switched off their UK weather server some years ago and this turned the weather station into an effective brick.

Having searched the internet, I can no longer find any reference to them switching the servers off but their weather stations are no longer available for purchase so…

You're using it as time source to set the vehicle clock?
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

No Paul. I was going to see if the Thermistor in it was suitable for use in the wing mirror.

Thereby followed a private conversation with another member.

I am sure I saw somewhere that it is an NTC resistor with 6K value. Maybe from a fiche?

This thermistor appears to be 10k as at the temperature in my kitchen (<18 Celsius) it was registered about 11750 Ohms

I'm intrigued to know if this worked Roger, following our chat earlier :)

I wonder if the C5 wing mirror thermistor could be a suitable substitute?

Why? Do you have one kicking around spare?

Dare I say they probably didn’t redesign the wheel.

After reading one thread, I stripped the mirror down and couldn’t find the wiring for the thermistor as the thread described it as being behind the motor…

It wasn’t. Would have taken me less than a minute to remove if I’d have realised where it actually is.

Only just found it Jim but its shape doesn’t really lend itself to doing what I was going to do.

Besides, the damned clock lost its time again after holding it for just over a day.

I am beginning to think it’s more to do with the solder on the clock PCB despite not visibly being able to see any cracked joints.

I went over the six connector pins last night so that didn’t work. Probably should have desildered the connector fully, cleaned up and re-soldered.

I've got two C5 wing mirror thermistors knocking about, but I don't know where I've put either of them :rofl2:

Worryingly, you’re beginning to sound like me. Sylv always says to me, “If I had a pound for every time you say, ‘I’ve got one somewhere!’ I’d be a millionaire!”

That is my usual litany Roger. And usually true but only confirmed when I have given up and bought a new one (or more likely a batch of a dozen)

It's bad enough when I lose parts, but a couple of months ago my mate had his missus's DS3 on my two poster doing back brakes, I opened the brake drawer of my roll cabs, and couldn't see a piston wind back tool so declared I didn't have one, after an hour of faffing around we had to phone his dad to borrow his wind back tool. Once the car was together, dinner was in the [metaphorical] dog, and I was in the doghouse, so I cracked a beer and hid from the duchess by going on the computer. Checks my email for "ebay wind back" I bought a 21 piece kit in 2019. :rofl2: Next time I was back at the workshop, in the middle roll cab, in the brake drawer, there it was, shiny red box. ](*,) In my defense, I was looking for the actual tool, not a plastic box, but still embarrassing
