C5 X7 1.6 THP -11 Code P2279

Hi, I have now huge problem with engine code P2279. It seems to be coming, no matter what I do. There is no engine light, but car goes some kind of safety mode, when cooling fan is on at full speed all the time. Then when I read codes, there is P2279. Then I erase the codes and 50-300km is fine. Then it appears again.

Only thing what I can say about car's behavior is that sometimes when you accelerate little faster from standstill to about 80kmh, automatic gearbox stay in 4th gear after you stop accelerating and acceleration is also little "wavy". Not much, but just enough that you can feel it. This happens sometimes, not every time. I do not know if this is related to code P2279, but this is what I have noticed.

Done so far:
- Checked intake for leaks. Everything seems to be fine.
- Checked timing. Was little off. Assembly with new parts, chain, sprockets, etc. Timing ok.
- New VVT solenoid.
- New MAP and Intake Pressure sensors.
- New intake gaskets.
- Breather valve seems to be ok.

Can this be caused by throttle body? Is there some method I can test it?

Ok, so there is a known fault for this when the cooling fan runs at high speed with this fault code on these petrol engines.

It means the Air pressure in the air intake distributor is inconsistent with the throttle angle of the motorized throttle body.

This is a rough translation:

Check for the absence of air intake at the intake.
Timing adjustment (if necessary).

Check that there are no air leaks in the intake:
Faulty seal
Damaged air intake distributor
Stitching (seal / weld / integrity?) of the deteriorated canister
Dislocated pipe

Repair any air leaks.

Thanks Marc!

I have checked all the connections and seals. Also inspected pipes and intake manifold. All seems to be fine.

What canister do you mean by this:
Stitching (seal / weld / integrity?) of the deteriorated canister

Can this be related to Vacuum Reservoir. That I have not removed and inspected yet.

Something to do with the fuel vapour collector. There's a post here about deleting it (not recommended) which might help you understand it and identify it. It's in French but using Chrome and then translate makes life easier.

That would likely be referring to the fuel vapour recovery tank??? - which shouldn't affect the issue which is to do with air intake, but worth checking. Thanks Paul.

If I read correctly, they're suggesting that the plastic canister might have a leak along the seam somewhere. I don't know how that ties in with the air intake but what do I know about petrol engines?

Here's the diagram for the vapour Absorption cannister:

(1) Petrol Vapour Absorber Canister, part: 1502K7, £187.32
(2) Is the Purge Solenoid Valve, part: V759514680, £83.34

So whether they mean the actual solenoid valve may be leaking or the canister itself I can't say.

It would be good to also check the engine breathing plumbing. Some of the connections are in difficult places to access, like under the inlet manifold.

All the hoses and connections are okay. Also the vapour canister looks fine. Purge solenoid valve is clicking ok, but there is some kind of membrane also inside. I don’t know if that is okay. Also I’m starting to suspect throttle body also. 🤔
