ASK or FSK

I have a 2016 Citroen Berlingo Multispace VIN VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. The original remote is marked CE0523. How can I determine if it is ASK or FSK? The problem is that it works for a few days, then the battery dies and it will not open or lock the doors. It will however always start the car. If I know if it is ASK or FSK, then I can get a new remote. Thank You in advance for yourhelp.

The key for my 2013 C5 X7 is the same style and also marked CE0253. I know that this is ASK as the duplicate key I coded to the car is ASK.

A couple of things.

Here are the part numbers for the official key / fob for your vehicle:

Item (1)
Key Uncut, part: 6490FS.
Key Cut, part: 6490FT.

(note you don't have the type shown under item (2).

Second, you vehicle is being flagged up with an outstanding after sales campaign. I would ring the dealer, quote the VIN and they will be able to advise what the work entails, but it will be free of charge.

A CE0253 can come in both ASK and FSK variants.

Going on the data i have i believe this will be FSK.

It's all to do with the frequency modulation Stu Amplitude Shift Keying and Frequency Shift Keying.

Thanks everyone for the replies. So far, there is one vote for ASK and one vote for FSK. Can anyone tell from the VIN?

The VIN won't tell you this sort of info, but I've provided the replacement fob part numbers for you.

All you have to do is search on those numbers to find suppliers that can offer a replacement, without needing to go into the specifics.

As i said going on my own notes & data i believe this to be FSK. Considering the price of aftermarket remotes are a fraction of the cost of the originals, you could just buy both types, If you select the wrong one the transponder should still program anyway, just the remote part wont work so will still be good as a spare, worst case you have a replacement key shell (the rubber buttons perish over time).
I personally use universal keys where possible, There very few (namely VAN/CAN C2, C3 & Xsara Picasso) Citroen or Peugeot models that can't be generated using them. If you select the wrong type & it dosent work you just re flash it & try a different frequency type. In my opinion the quality of these are way superior than the genuine originals yet are a fraction of the price & you can gat many different styles.

No, that's a bladed type flip key above, the blade is just folded in. The blade fittings are all the same so you can fit a Ford, Vauxhall, VW or whatever you want type blade. There are proximity/keyless versions too. In fact the keyles versions you can get a watch that becomes the universal key. The main ones are made by Xhorse, KD & Autel.
They dont work with every car out there but i reckon they can be used on around 80% of the cars out there just now.

You can get that style in the 2 or 3 button variants, the one in my pic is actually only a 2 button version so the bit in the middle isn't actually a button. Some people only stock the 3 button versions as they can also be used on 2 button cars, sometimes depending on the car the 3rd button actually does something when you program it to a car that was originally 2 button.
