Peugeot 308SW T7 2.0 HDi - extracting injectors... How?

Unread post by icu12345 »

Out of nowhere there was a particularly disgusting smell of burnt oil, so today I went on to investigate. Turns out I most definitely have a leaking injector or injectors (probably plural ):

There is also marvelously smelling smoke coming out of there as soon as the engine starts.

What shocks me most however is that there is very little clearance above the injectors, so there is no way to attach any removal tool like a reverse hammer, a pneumatic injector extractor or whataver contraption I might be using to pull out the (probably seized) injectors.

Has anyone pulled out the diesel injectors of a 2.0 HDi motor on a 308? How is it supposed to be done? Lower the engine? Somehow tilt it forward?

Thank you in advance for helping me...

If after removing the connector, high pressure fuel sensor, the high pressure fuel pipes and return pipes, injector and electrical harnesses you find that the injectors are seized, it is necessary to remove the engine-gearbox assembly to use the special extraction tools to remove them.

Exactly what I feared... Thank you for helping me out. Is it at all probable that I get the injectors out with the engine in place, i.e. with no special extraction tools? That would mean basically pulling them out by hand? They way they look tells me that the chances are slim to none but I have virtually no experience with diesel engines...

That's not something we can tell you as each case is different. If you find you can't get one out, then you have your answer, so if you suspect it's going to be a difficult job, then probably best to leave it to a garage with the experience and tools.

Glow plugs are vile as well, I mean who on earth puts a, what you would call a serviceable item in such a place they can not be changed, DPF off, EGR cooler off just to replace glow plugs on our 307 we changed 3 out of 4 when we changed the turbo, 4th we left as we didn't want to pull off the EGR cooler as well, Even Renault haven't done that!
But I suppose Mazda are not much better, there is one Spark plug on the RX8 you just can not get to without removing the engine, even the dealer leaves it in, again why?

Oh, something else I forgot to ask: Do the new injectors need coding? Or is the job done by "simply" inserting a new injectors?

I removed some from a Merc by spraying them with carburettor cleaner, leave it to soak in down the side of the injectors overnight then try to rotate the injectors, if they move at all give them another dose of cleaner, leave overnight and repeat as often as necessary. Eventually they did come loose and I was able to 'work' them out.

How big were the Mole Grips that you used to grip the injectors?

They will need coding.

I don't think I used grips I believe it was a spanner, I think the injector had a flat on each side, yours may be different.
You only initially need juts a few thou of movement, that allows the next lot of solvent to penetrate further. Each time you should get a little more movement until it slackens enough to work it out. Might take several days. Once you have got some movement it improves a lot with each application.

THank you for helping me out. I really appreciate your advice and I don't want to push my luck too far but still, one last question: What exactly do I need to code? Input the injector numbers somewhere in the DiagBox software?

The motor code is RHA (dw10cted4)
This thread provided me with some info but I didn't quite get it... On the other hand, some people claim that the new injectors do not need coding (here), but frankly I dont believe it...

Ignore that in the first thread, it's talking about a different engine to yours and he had it incorrectly stated in the title (which I've now changed). That second link is also incorrect!

Best thing to do is pop your VIN up so I can confirm your engine and injection system (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff).

So I guess the coding part is just inputting the injector codes in the software, correct? Here is a screenshot of my current coding:

So all I have to do is replace these codes with those of the new injectors, correct?
