P1382 2011 308 1,6hdi

Unread post by SalkinL »

So I got my daughter a 2011 308 1,6hdi, the 112hp version.

It is running maybe a little rough, slight hesitation on throttle, possibly a little thristy. At first I thought maybe an injector was bad then I checked the fault codes and it shows P1382. My googlefu says that is for the VVT solenoid. Am I right or wrong? Second question is where is it located? Can not find any information on internet about that.If it is the solenoid I will first check that it is working and getting the correct voltage and then try to clean it. But that is impossible if I can not find it ;)

VIN: VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

First thing to do is pop your VIN up (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff), then I can relate the fault code directly to this engine.

Here's the fault specifics for you, so a few possibilities.
Fault Code: P1382
Description of Fault: Ancillary drive belt: Fault in coherence between the engine speed and the alternator speed. Excessive slipping of the belt detected by comparing the alternator speed with the engine speed (for 5 seconds).
Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving for 5 minutes.
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Automatic restarting impossible following stopping of the engine (Requires restarting of the engine using the ignition key).
Symptoms:
  • Problem with automatic restarting of the internal combustion engine
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
  • Malfunction of the Stop and Start switch or its LED
Suspect Areas:
  • Ancillary drive belt
  • Engine speed sensor
  • Electrical harnesses
  • Connectors
The engine speed sensor is on the lower left side of the engine as you stand facing the windscreen.

Thanks for your reply.
This is wierd, because the car has none of those symptoms related to that. I did read the code after just have started the car on the driveway though, maybe that is the issue. Should try and drive it for a while and then read the codes again. But maybe the speed sensor needs changing even if the code clears? Think I know where it is, should be an easy fix.
The only symptoms that something is wrong is that the enging is running a little rough, slight hesitation on throttle, possibly a little thristy. So maybe the fault code and the symptoms are not related.

The engine speed sensor is used for lots of different things and systems, so is quite relevant here.

This fault mainly comes up under the STOP START system diagnostics, as it relates to the alternator. Your vehicle says it uses a reversible alternator, so does the job of the starter too and the engine speed sensor is used for comparison. If the sensor is faulty it can also lead to other engine issues, so I would suggest replacing that is a god start if the belt looks fine and there's no squeaking from the alternator tensioner pulleys etc.

I recommend NOT getting a cheap Chinese sensor - always get a good branded replacement for peace of mind as we've seen countless issues and wasted time resulting from poor quality sensors.

Got a little confused with the engine speed sensor. Looking at different sites to order one but there is two different types. One with a wire and one with a connector. So I donated £10 so could you please give me the OE partnumber and then I can order the correct type.
