C5 X7 Fault Code P1164

Unread post by admiral51 »

Hi All
My new arrival has had a temper tantrum and thrown up the above code.

It seems it was ok first thing this morning started fine and drove less than a mile to the shop to post some parcels.
When trying to restart it nothing, no crank nothing for 2 or 3 attempts then started up with Service Light on and Anti Pollution warning.
I have done a Diag session and apart from the usual Glow Plugs (P1351) and BSI F3FF ( uncharacterised initiation ) the Code P1164
IMG20230321174239.jpg
Cleared everything . Drove it for 25 mins stopped and restarted, did another Diag still got P1351 but nothing else.
Just asking if it is anything to worry about :)

Not going to complain to the previous owner as he is a very nice chap and looked after it very well :rofl2:

10.34 volts sounds low, I know that these figures reported via Diagbox are often a fair bit below battery voltage, but wonder if 10 volts is enough for this to be just a spurious fault??

Yes i looked at that but it was parked up for maybe 9 hrs after the issue and i managed to do a diag session with no economy mode and started as expected on the key.
Think the car had done 15 miles in the last 4 months prior to my ownership which began on Saturday so idle thought it may just be one of those things a very short journey and not up to temp but not being there when it happened i am going by what i have been told :(

I am using it for the next couple of days so will get a good 75-80 mile round trip so will see what happens but just confused about the no crank and the fault code. Pretty sure it has no priming bulb so my thoughts are maybe battery and or lift pump.

Either way it is a cracking car well looked after and just need to keep both car and wife happy :)

Someone may correct me if I am wrong, but I think that voltage value is saved data from the moment at which the fault occurred rather than a live reading?? (So could be low voltage giving spurious fault at that point in time) but sounds good news on how long it stayed out of Economy Mode Active!

But equally, that would be same for the engine room figure and that's showing zero.

I've just looked up when I bought the battery for that C5, remembering it as being 4-5 years ago. Turns out I (think) I got it in in 2014  ,though I'm not 100% sure on that as I've bought batteries for all the cars in the fleet here over the years. Corect me if I'm wrong, Colin, but it's got the Exide battery in it ?

Glad it went OK :) I'd swear on a stack of bibles that it was on its third battery though, but I can only find reference to the Exide 096 I fitted in 2014. The factory fitted battery had lasted 5 years. If it is only on its second battery, then I think that's a reasonably good advert for Exide batteries :-D

Thinking more about it the fact that the good lady would have done maybe 15 miles on Monday split into 3 journeys and the short half mile from home to the shop not a surprise a lot of juice taken out of it and it decided to throw a tantrum. :-D

Will keep an eye on it but guess a new battery would be a good start regardless.
Seems i cannot find the details of sale on the non existent receipt so guess the Coffee and Tea were more than 50p each :rofl2:

The other tantrum not going into #-o

Have you looked on the Tayna website. They are pretty competitive and have a decent reputation.

It would seem that the Exide battery fitted to it lasted getting on for 9(?) years and that was a standard 096, so I'd think a good quality 096 will do fine. I think the Halfrauds Yuasa 096 will be fine...... providing they have it in stock 8-[
As Steve says, Tayna are very good on prices, but surprisingly I managed to get a better price on eBay with Carpartsbargains (Eurocraparts offshoot) and a 20% discount for an Exide for my hairdryer.

Oops another thread i forgot to tie up. #-o

Well Battery was changed and have had no other issues since.
And just to show how much care Robin took with the old girl she passed her MOT on Thursday with nearly flying colours.
Advisories only
Front number plate cracked
Off side headlamp lens slightly discoloured
Both front tyres getting close to limit
Off side rear wheel bearing a little noisy.

Happy with all of the above, going to get both rear wheel bearings changed this weekend, have the Winter tyres to put back on ( Thanks Robin :) ) give the headlamp a clean with the kit i bought back in the summer ( yeah i know what you are thinking  ) and well the number is legit so........... :rofl2:

Thanks again Robin for letting me take it off your hands and early next year it is going to Scotland so SWMBO can go see her family for the first time since covid =D>

Just a quick update regarding the trip to Scotland and back i mentioned in my last post.

We went to Ayr to stay for a week in Haven Holiday park to use as a base to go and see relatives in Largs/Millport and have some much needed time away.
484 miles each way, 3 adults and a 34kg dog with a boot crammed to full.
62.3 MPG on the way up, a steady 10 hour journey with a couple of stop overs, 1 at Warwick services and the next at Gretna rest area.
Return journey a little different, same occupants but left at 18:00 at returned home at 01:30 with no stop overs.
Average speed 64.5 MPH and a return of 58.8 MPG :)
Cracking car, never went over over 78mph but does help when all bar 30 miles of the journey are dual carriageway and motorway.
Apart from the battery issue and the replacement of both rear wheel bearings which are normal wear and tare i got a cracking car.
Thanks Robin =D> =D>
