C5 X7 drivers door switch (courtesy lights)

Hi,
Tried doing a search on here without luck.
When I open the drivers door, I don't get the courtesy light illuminating. It works on the 3 other doors.
Could there be a fault with door switch?
If so where is it /how does it work?

The switch is an integral part of the door latch assembly & not replaceable separately. First thing I would do here though is pull back the rubber sleeve where the wiring passed through from the body to the door & check for broken wires, a common break point as they are being flexed all the time.

I don't suppose you'd be able to tell me which colour wires actuate the switch circuit?

Dont know which wire off hand but you want to be checking them all anyway as usually if there os one broken other ones ate not that far behind.

It is not the wire colour that is important (as the colours can change along its length, such as if it goes through a set of connections), it is the code that is printed every few inches. I don't know what the relevant code will be, but give it time and I am certain somebody will be able to advise you further.

Didn't get very far with this one as I've had to give the brake calipers some much needed TLC (2 North East Scotland winters haven't done the old girl any favours!).

I've noticed that the bottom of drivers door light is also out. Zero power to it.
How does the wiring turret between door and body come undone? Can't get it to turn either way. Is it on a bayonet or interference fit?

OK, was spurred on by a total weird self locking incident whilst the car was running outside my house. Car keys had house keys on!!
Luckily house was open and I had a spare car key fob.

Drivers physical door key does nothing at all. This must be linked to the door switch issue?

removed door card to look for anything obvious

Whilst investigating I found the rear window regulator runner clip inside the door is broken.
Don't suppose anyone has a spare or know if they can be bought separately without having to buy a complete regulator assembly?

Are these clips supposed to have 2 screws holding them on to window glass?

There's your problem Lady!

After I bought a drivers side door loom without even looking for the fault, I took the lock catch assembly out of the door to remove the 6 pin connector (shocking bit of design on this cable entry system!).
Lo and behold I found one of the six pins was corroded!
Cleaned it up with some Servisol and straight away we were back in business!
I'd actually forgotten that you get a message on the instrument cluster that tells you the drivers door is open. That's how long it's been bad.
TBH I would've probably left it even longer had the central locking not started playing up!

On the plus side I now have a spare door loom.

Also fitted a new window regulator as discovered the old one was well on the way to self destruction. Much better to find these earlier rather than later.
Thought I'd only changed it a few years back. Turned out to be 10 years!

The only slight problem I have now is the door lock hasn't gone back in exactly the same location and lock release is a teeny bit sticky. Think there's some wear in the upper door hinge.
Car has done 220K so we're getting into the 'everything is worn out' territory.

Well spotted! Water - it's a killer and gets everywhere. I'd suggest getting the regulator cables covered in marine-grade grease to guard against rust from water entry via the window rubber and channels. Give the wiring plugs a good spray of silicon spray too whilst you're at it.

My door window seals are fairly shot TBH.
Are they available to buy as genuine parts?
