Would this be something like you were thinking of Peter.

If I remember correctly can remember occasionally getting stuff called "Hop Bitters" in such a container from the Pop Man. An acquired taste and cant remember liking it at all but probably would now!

This just in from 'a mate from Otford' - In an unexpected plot twist, Otford library currently has a display with some old photos in it. What are the chances of that happening ? :)

^^ I love coincidences like that Neil :D

I don't know if this counts for this topic but this morning I was intrigued to see I ran exactly 5.10 miles in a time of 51 minutes at an exact 10.0 mins/mile pace...

Definitely counts Jim. I won't be curating the thread for accuracy against a strict definition its just a receptacle for everyone to share those unlikely co-incidences which crop up all the time, and I take some joyous pleasure from such trivia! In goes yours at number 3!

Familiarity Phenomenon & other unlikely coincidences Number 4

Documented on the "Remember these all our Yesterdays" arising from the "Observer's Books" discussion.

This is one of those which is in the unlikely co-incidences category but where the probability is known and highly unlikely.
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 20 Dec 2022, 20:09 I've just had one of those what are the chances of that happening just now on the observers books list.

I've just done a wordy post with the list of 100 Observers Books and thought I'll use the random number generator to select one of the books for which I was going to put up a picture of the dust jacket!

The generator selected Book number 20.....and yes what is it. Not only the observers book which set the subject running again here but a link back to my walk in the damp woods on POTD this morning. The chances of coming up were 100-1

I have a thread now for these matters to be noted.

Familiarity Phenomenon & other unlikely coincidences Number 5

From Citro Jim on POTD this morning
viewtopic.php?p=740144#p740144

First time I have ever mentioned Triangular Numbers on the FCF this morning here viewtopic.php?p=740133#p740133, and we discover that Citrojim's park runs are full of strange number-conscious participants! With this weekends Park Run 56 at Bury Field having the magical property of being the sum of the first six triangular numbers. :-D
CitroJim wrote: 28 Dec 2022, 12:14 Interesting you should mention Triangular and Tetrahedral numbers in the linked thread above Neil...

And here's a potential and rather tenuous coincidence - on Saturday I'll be officiating at the Bury Field parkrun, the 56th event for this particular parkrun. Many parkrunners choose their parkrun based on the event number... There's parkrunners who play bingo with the event numbers and others visit a specific parkrun when the event number is a Fibonacci Sequence for instance, as Bury Field was last week. Others look at other number sequences - it's endless...

When I'm officiating I always like to look at the upcoming event number to see if there's anything special about it and I find 56 is the sum of the first six Triangular numbers...
Thanks Jim!

A few unlikely coincidences cropping up on other threads
The Wind incident viewtopic.php?p=748749#p748749
Pursued by Persuaders viewtopic.php?p=748690#p748690
The Motty famous last drink viewtopic.php?p=746703#p746703
The Tale of Currie and Rice viewtopic.php?p=746891&hilit=currie#p746891
They seem to have some kind of theme...they follow Mick and Citrojim and myself around! Just us :?:
Surely not...come on there must be more unlikely co-incidence observers than the sub-set of members with proper ESP!

This is the thread for gathering up such things from the minor unlikely coincidence, through explainable familiarity phenomenon, to the full blown FCF spooky! :-D

Gosh yes, I see what you mean Marc! Pugs and Cits falling over like flies all over the place...

I wish I could help but unless it's pre-2000 I can offer nothing sadly... I'm so stuck in the last century

Familiarity Phenomenon & other unlikely coincidences

Kronenburg

Another One
1664 unlikely number of the day

NB
1664 has only been mentioned in the context of the beer 3 times on the FCF, once in 2013 and twice in 2006.
Lets say its been an insignificant dormant subject for over a decade on the FCF

Today it appears as a noticed number as Gibbo was put on the 1664 likes mark by Mick this morning on the energy matters thread. Appropriate acknowledgement with pictoral reference to Kronenburg 1664 posted by yours truly.

Many pubs have facebook pages, but how many have such an in your face no mistake image of Kronenburg 1664 on the "landing page" :?: Of all the beer joints in all the world, why did the Crown just happen to get the nod today for Pub of the Day, subsequently to reveal that a glass of 1644 would be the starring image on the Crown's facebook page.

Maybe not a full blown "spooky" but an unlikely coincidence at least! Familiarity Phenomenon did play its part as I was predisposed to notice the unlikely coincidence. It would have been hard not to notice the connection when presented with that in your face 1664 image :-D

Neil

PS The "Kronenbourg Co-incidences" as they have become known have been added to on POTD today... viewtopic.php?p=749369#p749369
