Hi All,
Can anyone explain how the the dual climate works with regard to the air distribution mixer flap and stepper motors.
As I seem to have a problem with heat distribution. I'm going to check for anymore air pockets at weekend.
2nd Question. How difficult are the pipes to take off going to the heating matrix. I recall the Xantia ones could break easily if not handled carefully.

- On the Dual Climate system there is both an air distribution and an air mixing stepper motor on the left and right hand sides of the A/C module.
The air distribution stepper motors permit driving of the distribution flaps (de-icing - footwells - vents) of the air conditioning unit.
The stepper motors drive the flaps of the air conditioning unit:
Mixing flaps (Mixture: Hot air +Cold air) - There is an air intake stepper motor on the right side.
Air entry flaps control: Exterior air - Partial air recirculation - Total air recirculation - There are blown air temp. sensors on each side.
The blown air temperature sensor measures the temperature of the flow of air passing around the sensor. - There is an Air Quality sensor.
The air quality sensor informs the air conditioning control system about the air quality exterior to the vehicle passenger compartment.
The air quality sensor detects oxidising and reducing gases (NOx and CO) which are the main air pollution agents. - There is an evaporator sensor
The evaporator temperature sensor measures the temperature as close as possible to the evaporator. - The Dual Climate system is linked to the sun sensor (the round module on the centre of the dash by the dash vent).
The sunshine sensor is part of a temperature regulation system.
The role of this sensor is to provide electrical information (single or double) which is proportional to the heat generated by the sunshine. - There is an air heating resistor
The digital air blower control module permits control of the air blower motor in relation to a reference value. - There is a Digital Air Blower Control Module.
The digital air blower control module permits control of the air blower motor in relation to a reference value.
As for the Matrix Kenny, it's a fascia off job (dash) to get to the pipes and the matrix. Although the pipes can be seen when changing the pollen filter, getting the unit out officially involves removing most of the dash.
Run the actuator tests first on the air mixing and distribution motors to rule those out. But otherwise if you suspect a blockage in the system, it may be worth trying to flush the system out / backflush it.

I checked the fluid level in the car since I topped it up and it's at minimum when cold but will recheck it and open bleed nipples again for little air pockets.
Thereafter will check with Diagbox I assume it will be heating/aircon.
Once again to this will be weather dependent.

Just want to add something, it may not help Kenny, but may do someone else.
My C5 does one long trip a month and couple of short ones, rest of the time it spends in the garage, warm & dry, and typically the heater is always on auto. However, on a recent outing when I was cold, I thought I would turn the heating up a bit, no change, then a bit more and after hearing a loud clicking noise it now seems okay, but not as hot as I remember, but that may be me.
Anyways, I think, as it has not been used much, the cogs & sliders may have got jammed up a bit, (with dust?), so I am going to try to remember to adjust the heating controls when ever I go out in it just to keep things moving.
I dont think it's worth spraying with silicon lubricant as this will just attract more dust!

I had a knocking type noise which varied with the speed of the heater blower, the blower is working fine. Hence thinking about stepper motors etc.

Okay, I got Diagbox onto the car no faults logged in ecu but checking further found the following
Air temp sensor was reading 6513 degrees C !!!
Air quality sensor reading 2500%
Air Distribution stepper motors 58%
Air intake Stepper motors 0%
Also at the bottom of the parameter settings if fault codes F70A and /or B70A are present cause problems.
Also my A/C was inactive.
The oil sensor fault maybe as a result of the the engine wiring harness being yanked and the plug maybe partially pulled out like wise with the A/C.
But the price and availability of the parts are ridiculous so will get a portable heater which plugs into the lighter socket and use that.
Finally in order to fix this may require dash out and anybody who has done this in the Xantia's will know what pig of a job this is.

I imagine if it's telling your ECU this, the heating system should revert to a base code...Perhaps not.
I cant tell if the air sensor is having an impact on the quality sensor or perhaps it's gummed up and needs a clean.
In my old Range Rover, there is a small sensor on the dash that can get clogged with dust and this creates an implausible reading and messes with the interior temp settings.
Try replacing the air temp sensor 1st....
Has anyone seen the plot?

That temperature sensor readout is not that high. I recently replaced a battery in an Amazon Locker (Odin model, which has no screen and is entirely battery powered) that the servicing app said had a temperature fault. I just HAD to note down the reported temperature, as it was somewhat excessive; 4,294,967,295 degrees Centigrade! As the Sun runs between 10 and 50 million degrees Centigrade even it would consider that battery to be unusually hot.

Found a video on car mechanic site which exactly matches the noise I have. It relates to the stepper motors and is caused by worn plastic cogs slipping.
Retired mechanic took out the stepper motor placed epoxy resin into the hole and put his original back in allowed to set and it works.
Will remove these motors and see what I find.

Well with the weather dry I thought I would investigate further, stripped out glovebox to gain easier access to find the air blower had some how come out of its housing, refitted same and bingo all working.No money spent and it also explains why no faults shown in ecu.

Hello everyone. I have an issue with my blower (i.e. it doesn't work), and thought I'd come looking for inspiration. I have a 2010 C5 Tourer, and a few days ago when I game to drive on a particularly frost morning the blower, which worked fine the previous day, was completely dead. I checked the fuse, and that's still intact, and when I drive it (now it's defrosted) i get a small patch of heating on the screen which I assume is being forced through as I drive.
I took it to my local Halfords who said they couldn't touch it as it would take too long to dismantle the dash, I spoke to another garage who couldn't get hold of the part, and finally I spoke to the main dealer. They quoted £260 to replace it, but another £144 to do diagnostic check just in case the blower wasn't the issue.
Before I commit to £400 (which isn't far off the value of the car), are there any suggestions as to other routes I should look at?

As this post seems active with knowledgeable folks could I ask is it possible to manually adjust if it had one the master air flap that controls heat to the cabin (C5 1.6 hdi)? The cars old and dying but I need it to last a bit longer and presently have no heat drivers side and only like warm air passenger side, I know the flaps are accessible by removing the glove box but thats it, I used to be able to hear the motors movibg the flaps but not anymore. It doesn't have to be a pretty fix I just need the heat on
