Oil Dip Stick

Unread post by TheFrenchCarGuy »

Hi

I've just noticed that my dip stick is broken at the bottom. It looks as if half of the plastic on the bottom has snapped/broken off and I assume has fallen into the oil sump!

Does anyone know if the dip stick has a part number as I need a replacement. It's a 2013 DS5 2.0 HDi 163.

Any advice on what I should do with the broken end that is probably either in the tube or at the bottom of the engine?

Thanks

It was a common problem with these. Citroen used to 'fish' them out of the oil sump at next service, but have since stopped doing this as it presents no danger as the mesh will prevent it going anywhere else.

It has been covered on the forum elsewhere over the years, but if you can't already find the info you need on the Forum, we do ask for a membership upgrade for official parts data as we are in turn charged for this. It will cover you for future parts requests for up to 2 years, so excellent value.

Thanks Marc

So if I buy another dip stick I could end up with 2 broken bits floating around in the engine/oil sump!?

I'll take a look. I did search for " dip stick " before posting but I'll take another look. Is the membership a one off/monthly/annually?

I've just read the link you posted, sorry. That has all the info regarding membership. This is something I will think about as I'm sure now my car is aging it's likely to need more attention. Thanks Marc.

No worries - it's entirely voluntary and lasts up to 2 years from upgrade date - so the earlier in a calendar year you upgrade, the longer the benefit, as you get the remaining months in the joining year and to the end of the following year.

As for the part, It's my understanding they modified the dipstick tube guide, so whether that had any affect on the dipstick in future I can't say.

Just my opinion on the dipstick, the wife's C4 1.6 hdi had the broken dipstick problem, I read up about leaving it, knowing it couldn't get any further than the sump. and fitted a new one, after a couple of oil checks, it came out with the end missing.
I removed the sump and both pieces were jammed in the bend of the dipstick tube and not a chance of them reaching the sump. I had to remove the tube and force the bits out.
3rd dipstick is in and no probs now

Maybe the modified tube guide was modified to prevent the dipstick sticking in the tube and breaking off when being lifted out.

Thanks guys for this info. I've just ordered a replacement from Amazon. I'm really hoping I don't need to remove the sump 🤞

Here's what I ordered -
