508 Side lights / parking/ position lights and BSI resets !!!!

Post by JR508 »

Hi all new here with a 508 manual 2012 120,000 miles - No Zenon lights fitted to this car.

I have no side lights....But the green light shows on the dash when switched on and off.

Am confused read lots of posts ref BSI resets, seems to be a couple of ways of doing this reset - all off 3mins, batt terminal off for 3mins, replace and leave for 3mins then start the car .... MAde no difference

Also tried the 3 mins all off, batt teminal off 10secs, back on for 15secs, sidelights on 10secs then start ?!?!?!

Mot sure if Im getting this right Could you please tell me the correct way to do this.

The Lights;

All other light functions and settings i.e; dip and main beams including the dash blue and green status lights all correspond properly, accept the sidelights (showing as on on the dash but not in the headlights)

The owners manual doesnt tell me where the fuses are ?

All of the satnav, windows, radio, cig lighter etc etc everything works in the car

Some help would be really appreciated

Many thanks

It's more likely you need to replace the bulbs - have you checked. They should be a 5W W5W type.

Thanks for coming back to me

Is it typical on these for both to go at the same time ?

It may be that you haven't noticed that one or both were out as they are not very bright.

I suggest you try replacing these first, they're not expensive, and then see how you go.

It's worth a check of the bulbs, but is this a new to you car? Does it have day running lights and do they stay on when the sidelights are switched? Similar aged C4 Picassos have the bulbs fitted, but they are not connected!

Just realised that the offside (drivers) rear number plate light doesn't work either!

Does this have a bareing ?? as I have seen something about the number plate lights being connected in some way to the side lights .....

Owners manual says nothing about relays and fuses for side lights

Does anyone know which ones they are ?

Appreciated

Hi All

Both sidelight and both rear number plate lights have no power..... is this a BSI problem or something else ?

Does anyone know where the fuses and relays are for these ?? (book / manual doesnt say)

Thanks

Thank you mark

Is this a BSI thing do you think ?

HAve looked for good fuse, relay locations and wiring diagrams .... seem to either be incomplete (being new to the mark gets confusing) or scarce.

Thanks again

I have no idea if this is a BSI issue, but if you think is / or have had same experiences, can I reset ? If so;

What’s the correct procedure?

Thank you

Hi ...UPDATE and Progress

I dont know what any of them do (O/manual doesnt say), but have played around with all the fuses under the bonnet, wiggled wiring about etc..... I now have rear number plate lights :-D

Alas but still no front side lights :(

Is there a wiring diagram of the headlight plug/socket available anywhere so I can check power flow through the headlight its self with my power probe ? .......and back up the loom, etc.

Thanks J

The Front Sidelights are managed by the Engine Fuse Box; the Number Plate Lights are handled by the BSI. I can't see any direct fuses for these 2 though, but of course the BSI is powered from the electrical supplies management.

Have a look at the earth point for the front DRL (sidelights): MC 16 is the earth for these.

Fuse F9 in the engine fuse box controls one of the internal Fusebox ECUs that the side light wiring goes to, so take a look at that.

For future reference, the BSI reset procedure I've put together is here:
