Citroen Berlingo Stuck In Gear, Selects all gears

Post by Advanced Diagnostic »

Hi All French Car Fans

I purchased a 2007 Citroen Berlingo 5 Speed Manual.

It is stuck in a gear.

BUT, i can select all gears and hear it going into all gears,
If i put it in reverse or first gear and i try pushing it you can feel it is in gear.

In Neutral it is also in a gear but it is like a 5th gear ratio. Or 3rd.

I removed side cover and when selecting 5th gear the selector fork moves in and out.

Any ideas.

Thanks in Advance.

Assuming the selector cables are correctly fitted then im afraid its a gearbox strip down to see what’s gone wrong.

There's a comprehensive guide here http://www.eastment.net/be3%20gearbox.htm the author is long time contributor here (although not currently active). This is an earlier box, but PSA haven't changed it much for nearly 40 years!

I would check the cables are properly seated and working however, before committing to stripping the box - these are very reliable and rarely give terminal trouble, unless run without oil.

Thank You for the reply and link.

Yes we have checked the cables.

What i did now was to try all the gears with the clutch pressed and then moving the brake disk to see if the gearbox turns freely.

When in neutral clutch at released position, disk feel like in gear..
When in neutral clutch depressed then disk turns freely.

When clutch depressed and ALL gears selected, disk is still in gear.
Clutch released in ALL gears, disk still in gear.

4th And 3rd does not feel to go in all the way until i start wiggeling the disk front and back, but 4th is more of a problem getting in.

Hopes this makes sense.
Thanks

By the looks of it there has already been a repair done to the gearbox, you can see the shaft nut has been re used (unless this was you).
Maybe a previous bad repair?

I agree. As there was allot of sealant holding the 5th gear cover stuck.
I will remove the Gearbox today and then strip it down and i will keep all posted on progress.

Thanks

This next Photo the synchro do not want to go to the bottom gear, which i think is 3rd. I cannot get them to line up to engage the gear.
