Took my can in for an oil and filter change. This morning I mentioned I didn't remember if it had its timing belt done. Turns out it was done at 102k (along with water pump) in 2016. Anyway the garage says it needs done every 140k or 120 months but the goes on to say that is next year and best to get it done early. Thing is, the car has done 149k now, just 47k more since belt last done and 120 months in my mind is 10 years so not sure why they say that it needs done next year never mind this year. They said they'll take the cover off to have a look but I'm not sure this really needs done.
Looking for some speedy advice, thanks.

Looking at a timing belt is not a good indicator of its condition. I have seen timing belts with almost perfect clean breaks that look visually OK with all the writing still visible & no signs of cracking.boristhespie wrote: ↑02 Dec 2021, 10:45 They said they'll take the cover off to have a look but I'm not sure this really needs done.

Yeah he said that but it seemed to me that which makes me wonder why do it. he mentioned "oil ingress". The thing is do I need it given from my non mechanical reading that it's nowhere near due on the mileage or year measures? I would clear have it done if needed but not sure it is.

If the belt is contaminated thats a different story. Do you have any other signs of oil leaks?
It’s nowhere near due on age/milage.

If I was taking the cover off to check it, I would fit a new belt just for the hell of it... The time consuming part of the job is taking all the covers off. Then you of piece of mind for a long time.

Me thinks he's fishing for work... Unless you have oil leaks showing on that end of the engine tell him thanks but no thanks....

The belt never gor changed. Bloody caliper did though. Again. What is it with calipers continually sticking. Had loads on all my c5# including the usual corrosion issue. Garaged was good though. Lot of good advice. One of my spheres on the back looks corroded. They can't find the part. Are there spheres available still?

Spheres are available from Citroen and various suppliers - but the front struts on the C5 MK I & II are no longer available and with the rear struts, only the rear left ones available for non-hydractive 3 plus vehicles.
