C6 alarm chirruping

Unread post by jamescarruthers »

My C6 sits and has a little chat to itself nowadays. I think it is the alarm siren, but not 100%. This happens whether the car is locked or unlocked.

Any ideas? I presume the alarm is the same as a C5?

Sounds like either water in the siren or its connector or the internal battery starting to fail, cant be replaced separately.

Thanks. Will maybe hang on and have replaced at the next service as I’m sure it will be buried somewhere difficult!

The control module seems to be located somewhere inside the front passenger glovebox and the siren is connected to this.

So not sure which part you are wanting to replace, (4) is the siren, (3) is the siren support bracket which is on the nearside wing at the front corner somewhere. All parts are showing as available except the internal volumetric sensors (2).

6680V1 is the Alarm control unit (1) £200.54

Does the siren have an internal backup battery which may have died?

Yes, they mostly do to counter anyone cutting the power - and when they do go, you generally find the alarm starting to go off randomly, more and more frequently when the car is locked.

Changing the control unit has cured the problem on my previous vehicles, although I never noticed and 'chirping' just the racket of the alarm going off!

Sorry to resurrect this, but would you happen to know where the siren is located on the C6? I have bought another one from eBay for about £13 (old one from another Citroen) which is likely also containing a dead battery. I thought I'd have a go at taking it apart to see if the battery is replaceable.

Hi James, not a lot of info regarding this, but just managed to find the location for you - not a good diagram unfortunately....

Look at the sub-diagram 'E'. The alarm Siren unit is marked as 8605. So it should be located in the front left wing area.

For anyone else interested, the siren, Citroen P/N: 6680W7, Delphi P/N: 9661994180 on a Citroen C6 can be accessed by simply removing the R/H (UK passenger) side day running light / indicator. I've only unplugged it for now, not sure if it can be removed with this access.

Marc, do you reckon the control unit P/N: 6680V1 can be swapped from another car, or is this something that needs to be coded? Could my fairly basic Lexia skills do this? I note that there is one on eBay for £24, second hand.

If it's a UK model that the unit has come from you should be ok. So yes, you need to ensure that you use manual configuration and just check that the settings are as detailed below:

The only parameters that need changing - in case they are not already are the 2 directly below:
  • Country: UK
  • Module Operating Mode: Europe
Everything else must be left to the default and these are the default options for reference:
  • Anti-tilt: Absent
  • Indicator light control: By the alarm ECU
  • Sensitivity of the internal sensors: Sensitivity 8
Thatcham Mode
  • Initialisation of the overall counter: Prohibited
  • Initialisation of the external counter: Prohibited
  • Time delay on the overall counter: 15 seconds
  • Overall counter: Inactive
  • Maximum value of the external counter: 10
  • Maximum value of the overall counter: 10
  • Maximum value of the internal counter: 10
  • Maximum value of the anti-lift counter: 10

Got it on order. Can live without the alarm, but if its a cheap easy fix I'll give it a go. As per usual, very thankful for your help.
