Dispatch 2012 timing belt soon

Unread post by scaryjon »

Hi everybody, need advise about how to see signs about end of life of timing belt and water pump. Any clues about finding out if the timing belt and water pump are still good or needs change? its an expensive job and dont want to spent if service is not due. Car is at 85k miles. Thank you!

Well unless you know it's actually been done, it's certainly about due anytime now for age-related reasons as it's approaching 10 years anyway regardless if you have reached recommended mileage, so probably time to start thinking about it.

There is no real way to tell the condition of a timing belt just by looking at it, i have seen broken belts with absolutely no signs of ageing, wear or cracking. At the same time i have also seen belts that are in terrible condition frayed, badly cracked cords showing & teeth missing but they were still hanging on there until the were changed. If in any doubt change it.
As for the cam chain they dont normally need or get replaced with the timing belt.
If you are going down the aftermarket route your motor factors will normally narrow it down from your reg number.

yes, but the reg number is not 100 per cent accuracy i would rather use my chassis to make sure it is a 100 per cent match. is there some sort of feature online or should i visit the dealership for exact parts and part numbers??

in regards to the timing belt, i guess i have to change it now rather than later, it hasn't been changed and don't want any damage to the car. i am still on the original wp should i keep it?

The Citroen part numbers may not tie up with aftermarket parts, if you want genuine parts then yes go to the dealer & they will get dealer parts from the reg/VIN.

Put a donation in, take the genuine part number onto AutoDoc, MisterAuto etc then buy a gates kit at a fraction of the price. Gates is original fitment and the same as genuine PSA

Citroen dealers have quite reasonable fixed price offers for timing belt jobs, might be worth looking them up before getting your hands dirty. :)

Put it this way. Will you still have this car when the timing belt is next required?

Just follow the links in the table - membership upgrade is automatic and instant, then just pop your VIN up here (automasked) and I'll sort the part numbers for you.
