Cracking C5 spheres needed befoire removal?

Unread post by aneesh84 »

Whenever I used to remove Xantia spheres, I used to first crack the sphere by putting the Car on high position, and hammering it a quarter of a turn before depressurising and removal.

Is the same needed for C5? In the instructions posted for C5, I did not find any reference to such a procedure prior to depressurisation.

Not normally, as these should only be hand tight, but they can become stuck with age - so you may need to gently coax it.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Chisel and a big hammer will be needed if you don't have a a removal tool.

Since they are factory fitted, I am expecting some resistance. Thank you for the confirmation!

I was going to order that tool. But with Brexit, importing things into Europe from UK is a pain. You pay huge charges and taxes and takes over a month to receive the item, probably stuck at customs. I couldnt find any EU supplier.

I will try with this tool from Norauto.

You could always try making your own sphere removal tool;

Yes, always loosen on high, for the rears anyway. If you don’t its likely the whole strut will spin as you try to undo them.

Home-made jobbie. Anyone with welding kit could make up one of these for you...
