C5 bonnet catch

Unread post by deano1970 »

Ok. Got a C5 estate, 58 plate. Getting into the bonnet was difficult. So, got it up, and the plastic catch was stiff, I got maintenance spray and sprayed all over the catch and bonnet catch. The catch moves very freely by hand but not great with the catch.... anyway, I sprayed it all up and was moving the catch up and down hoping it would get easier to move and ended up snapping the plastic off and now I've shut the bonnet I can't open it again... I'm not too concerned at the moment about that, but is a replacement difficult to fit? I got a flat blade screwdriver to try and push it up to release the catch but ended up the whole unit came out, got that back in but is there any advice on how to open the bonnet easily before it's repaired and is it likely I'll need a full new cable as well? Thanks

Not difficult to fit as long as the replacement cable is exactly the same length. Paid a tenner for mine - the plastic gets fragile after a while and breaks easy.

Thanks for the replies. It really is the worst design I've seen for opening a bonnet....... the release moved freely as I said, but the catch wasn't moving it really well....it was obviously worn, it is 11 years old, but a better method to open it in the first place would be good. Just no need to attach it all to a flimsy bit of plastic, always going to cause trouble. Cheers
