Citroen Gear and final ratios

Unread post by stappin »

Hi

Does anyone know where I can find the gear ratios for the 20CQ21 and 20CQ08 gearboxes please?

Is there a definitive site or workshop manual that lists them?

Cheers

Si

Pop your VIN up (auto masked) and I'll see what I have.

Thanks VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] is my C2 which I think has a 20CQ21 box.

I don’t have a vin for the 20CQ08 box/car but I have the box and what I think is the serial/part 1236350.

Ok, so I can only give you the ratios of the gearbox for your VIN, the gearbox reference numbers are not good to me.

For the TU5JP4S box as fitted to your C2. The Final Drive is 14x60 with differential of 77. I have highlighted in blue the ratios for your TU5JP4S box.
Stepping of the gearbox(1st gear)(2nd gear)(3rd gear)(4th gear)(5th gear)Reverse gear

Interesting thanks. Now looking in the manual I found online using the MA/5S you highlighted above, leans towards the fitted box being 20CQ18 with a 17x64 torque ratio (although doesn’t list a drive ratio).

Can you do anything with part numbers or Gearbox Type? I think the Citroen part number for a 20CQ08 is 2223XY and gearbox type is MA/5N.

Or engine type TU1A with box type MA/5N?

We have a collection of those manuals in our members section which requires a Forum donation to access - along with Parts info requests from the Admin Team as PSA charge us for this. There may be a more suitable manual there - I can't say for sure.
A response to your question by a Forum Admin will require detailed vehicle information that requires you to have made a current contribution to the Forum.

Further Information
PSA parts info is accessed on a vehicle by vehicle basis - usually by VIN - they more commonly do not reference specific model or serial numbers found on parts. I can provide you with PSA part numbers for specific vehicles but I can't cross reference gearbox model numbers as these vary from gearbox to gearbox.

So if I was to give you the PSA part number for a 20CQ08 gearbox (and a donation) would you be able to find the gear ratios of that gearbox?

For a donation do I get access to the manuals and psa part search facility?

No and no. :)

All I'm saying is if you provide the VIN I can provide the PSA part number for the correct gearbox (should you wish to make a donation).

I already said I can't provide part numbers based on gearbox serial / model numbers as PSA don't use these for part numbers (a gearbox will have a PSA part number, but in addition may have a slightly different model number on the gearbox as these can vary slightly between build year, but are compatible).

Some gearboxes are used across various PSA models - but they sometimes have variations (as per the table I posted for example). So the gearbox on a C2 may be different to that on the C3 or different depending on the engine.

Let's try it a different way. Are you are looking for a replacement gearbox? If so then I can provide you with the PSA part number that you can use to search on elsewhere.
On the other hand, if you are looking to swap the gearbox for a different version, it becomes harder as I can't match an unknown gearbox (or just the model code you have) to a PSA part number very easily.

Well what I’m trying to do is compare the ratios between the box in my 1.6 VTS (20CQ18 or 21) versus 20CQ08 1.1 litre box.

The reason being is the gap from 2nd to 3rd gear is quite big at the moment. So I want to see if swapping the ratios or the whole box over will provide better acceleration and drivability from 2nd to 3rd. From what I’ve read they have the same final drive (I think) but its the gear ratios that I’m interested in.

This car is used for Autocross’ing (a form of budget grass roots motorsport) where I spend a lot of time in 2nd and 3rd on dirt tracks. Sat on the limiter in 2nd you change to 3rd an it bogs down.

Im starting to think the only way is going to be open the 20CQ08 up and count the cogs teeth.

Hi Marc can you run the C3 VIN posted in the post “ Citroen C3 1.1 VIN” and post the gearbox ratios please?
