2001 Citroen C5 Mk. 1 Sat Nav Firmware Update?

Post by jamescarruthers »

I work on my sister's 2001 C5 exclusive and this week put in the latest (and last I think!) map CD in to it, which I bought from eBay.

This one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/113735549947

The car came with an older disc, which worked in every respect except showing maps. The Map section on the display is always greyed out but it will hbappily find an address and take you there with symbols directing you.

I was hoping that the newer CD would bring the maps to life but it is the same.

Does anyone know how to check the software version of the ancient Sat Nav unit and, most importantly, know if an updte would help?

The system is the type with the large centre colour screen with CD reader in a cubby hole near the driver's knee.

Looks like you have the old VDO system.

It will help if you put the VIN up here (automatically masked from public view) so I can verify the system you have.

Ok, so you have the VDO system on your C5.

The last maps available were 2014-2015.

Details here on the Citroen Navigation site:

https://citroen.navigation.com/product- ... Model=true

However there is very little available on this system as it went out of production about 2003. The only thing to do is go into one of the menus and have a hunt about to see if you can find your system software version. I don't have any documentation about this system, so can't even tell you where to find this - but is will usually be in a system menu.

Thanks Marc. I couldn't seem to find any software details when I was messing about with it. I remember needing to hold something down on the C6, admittidly a completelydifferent system, but had no luck holding buttons to get to a hidden menu on the C5.

I have bought yet onother Map CD, but this time with Here Maps data and hoping that this might work.

Fingers crossed!

This link was helpful, not in providing any update but stating that v6 of the software is the last *certified* for Citroen VDO Dayton but that v8 exists and works but doesn't bring any appreciable improvement.

(you can change language on drop down bar on right hand side)

(Google translate of above)

Still doesn't help me with getting maps on the screen. In my many internet searches it seems that the VDO Dayton also came as just a head unit so maybe had no visual maps in CDs for the system. I suspect that I may have a CD without maps because the system works perfectly, just doesn't show any maps.

Will report back on the CD purchase!
