Peugeot 407 rear parking sensors problem (Solved!)

Unread post by Franchute13 »

Hello everyone.

Yesterday I took the workshop to repair a leak of automatic gearbox oil.
When the car is returned to me, all washed, I see that the rear parking sensors do not work.

Display error: Parking assistence system faulty.

I talk to the people in the workshop and they tell me to take it today to see it.
Before taking it, I diagnose it with my Diagbox 7.64 but no fault comes out !!. The communication with the AAS control panel is correct.
The only rare thing there is, in MEASUREMENT, there is a field called
STATUS OF REAR PARKING AID (the last field) which constantly goes from ACTIVE to UNDEFINED.

There is no water in the AAS module area.

Peugeot 407 v6 2008
Any suggestion?

Hi

Water - that's you likely problem - and as you have just mentioned about the car being washed - I suspect they have jet / pressure washed it and shot a load of water into the wiring.

The vulnerable areas are under the bumper, where the water can get onto the sensor wires. From there, the water rolls back into the sensor plug itself and causes problems. This is especially so when there are intermittent problems. The reversing system won't work if even one sensor is playing up.

You can put the ignition on and put the car into reverse, then walk round to the bumper, and very lightly, put your finger very near the sensor - just touching it, and you should feel a sensation in your finger. Do this for all the sensors and the one that isn't giving the slight tingling will be the one that is playing up. Get under and check the wiring.

Bu this I am almost sure is what has happened. You may be lucky and it will dry out, but more often, once the water penetrates, it starts to become intermittent more frequently and a sensor may need replacing.

Hello Marc!
Thanks for your quick response.!

I did the test of touching the sensors but I am unable to feel anything. The vibration of the motor is felt more than something in the sensors.
What's weird is that DiagBox doesn't detect anything.
Just in case, leave the car in the sun.

Cheers

Your problem will be is that it is an intermittent issue, so it may not be registering a permanent fault. I had this on my MK II C5 - first one sensor then the other. In the end my Citroen mechanic re-routed the rear sensor wiring to the plugs, to make sure that the wires to the plugs were placed lower than they were, so that any water ran down the wire and off it, rather than along the wire and into the sensor.

He did this after I ended up replacing 4 of them at different times. Turns out I was a bit adventurous with the pressure washer underneath and of course this caused the water ingress.

Hi.
Unfortunately, after leaving the car in the sun for 6 hours, the problem continues.
Any suggestion to try?
Cheers

Ok, so my test was assuming you had a manual gearbox - but is done with ignition on only - not with the engine running, as that will still engage the reversing circuit and activate the sensors. But as you have an automatic, I've not tried it - can you get it into reverse with the ignition on only so that the reversing lights are on? If you can, then try this and then you will feel a slight buzzing on the surface of the sensor.

If the sensors are not working, there are no beeps - then your problem may be elsewhere.

Check Fuse F12 in the BSI in the passenger compartment (and also it would help me if you put your VIN here) which only staff can see.

Hi Marc

The VIN is: VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Is automatic gearbox.

Regarding the sensor test, I am going to use the DiagBox to force the sensors to work and in this way do the finger test.

Cheers

Just be careful with Diagbox on the parking assistance ECU - it has been known that some of the clone interfaces can leave the parking assistance ECU in an unconfigured state, which results in it not working.

Good advice
How do I identify an ECU that is left in a unconfigured state?

Basically it won't work! :-D

I'll have to try and find my previous posts on this to see if it was related to the software or the clone hardware - as it was a while ago now.

Hi Marc!
I am very happy to inform you that I was able to fix the problem.
I'm sorry to inform you that I ignored you :(.
I entered the AAS calculator, repair, telecoded manually and there was an option that said type silhouette, I passed it to BREAK, save and put BERLINA back and save. Turn off the car for 5 minutes and now it works properly.!
The version of DiagBox used was 7.82

Ok, so you are using a far later version of DB than needed then! Versions from 7.65 on have reduced telecoding options, so you have been lucky with you model on this version.

Glad you have it working - it is always a risk, but worst case scenario you could of taken it to the dealer and paid them to recode it for you needed to.

Good result.
