outside temperature sensor

Post by KennyW »

Hi All,

My temp sensor on the fos mirror is reading approx 6 degrees lower than actual temp. Can this be altered with Diagbox or requires new sensor.
I've just had a look and the sensor is cover by the plastic mirror cover so can't access the wiring

Is there a replacement procedure for the sensor

If its the same as the mk 1 & 2 you remove the mirror glass first, tilt it all the way till you can see the metal retaining clip, flick it off with a small screwdriver. You can then Acess the clips to remove the rear cover of the mirror. The sensor just unclips from its housing. There is no connector on the sensor, it just comes with 2 un terminated wires. Cut the old one off & join the wires with solder & heatshrink them.

Wheeler the X7 is a little more complicated. Once the mirror is removed, the electric motor needs to be moved then 2 plastic outer casings with plastic clips and then you access the sensor.

I have got to the sensor but would like to know if it is a straight swap or requires calibration to set temperature before I snip the 2 wires.

Again I can only speak for the Mk 1 & 2 which is just a straight swap, I cant imagine something like a basic temperature thermistor would need any form of programming/set up etc.

No calibration Kenny - a straight replacement.

Cut the wires at 'a'

outside temperature sensor - Picasso Xsara

Post by captainkephart »

Hi Marc,

I assume this is the same on the Xsara Picasso (1.6DOHC petrol 2008)?

I took the wing mirror off OK, but then was defeated at seeing how to get at the sensor.
Assume it was because I was feeling timid about breaking the mirror glass / snapping some vital tiny piece of plastic thingumajigdoodaddy ...

Or is this one different to the C4 / C5 etc arrangement?

Will a (wash my mouth out) Autodoc one be OK or should I source reliable OEM?

Ta, Captain K ;-)

Xsara Picasso Only:

These sensors are available quite commonly - the original part number is: 6445F9 and costs £48.02 from Citroen - but you can google this part and pick them up quite cheaply

Here on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/External-Tempe ... B07VXQKFX7 for £7
Or a slightly cheaper OEM one from an ebay seller: https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/1938046634

Fitting it is similar, but will probably involve a bit of faffing to get to the wires - the mirror should be easy to remove - but you will have to see whether you can snip the wires internally just inside the mirror housing and join the new sensor, or whether you need to remove the door card panel and mirror to do it.
Xsra Pic Mirror A.PNG

Unclip the clip ( 1).
Disconnect the connectors (according to equipment).
Remove the glass from the mirror.
Ensure that the spring clip ( 1) is correctly located in its mounting.
Clip the unit onto its support.
Once you get the glass out the way, you will have a better idea and hopefully can remove the sensor and reattach a new one at the local area of the housing.
