Citroen C8 Depollution Fault

Post by Jayce72 »

I have a Citroen C8 HDI (Deisel) with an intermitant Depollution Fault problem that I need help to pin point the fault.

I have had the car for 4 years and this fault has always been there but now getting worse.

If I start my car there will be no Engine Managment light and for the first 2 to 3 miles it'll go like a slug. I can put my foot full on the acceleorator and it'll crawl up in speed. After the 2 to 3 miles the slowness goes and the car the goes like normal.

If I then change down a gear and floor it for a bit (or on a motorway accelorating hard to get speed) the error Depollution Fault displays on the display and the engine managment light comes on. But there is NO loss in speed or acceloration.

After a day or two the engine managment light will go out - but the car still acts as above - I've lived with this for years and accepted it

BUT - over the last week the car at low speed (under 30mph ish) will start to studder and jolt and lose power and I find Im having to lower the clutch and then over rev so it doesnt stall - I has stalled once on me. After driving for a while this clears up a bit

So, on searching the forums I think it can be one of a few things - Either the CAT or the EGR valve (PS:There is no black exhaust smoke) I am no expert or mechanic so dont really have a clue

Any help please?

Thanks :)

DPF, EGR, plus a number of other possibilities. Post your Vin so everyone knows the exact spec of the car (Only the Holy Ones can see the Vin, it's masked for the rest of us plebs). In the meantime try and get it on a Citroen specialised diagnostic tool, not a cheap handheld one, and post the codes.

The VIN will help, though.

The forum software will automatically obscure the VIN so only forum staff can read it.

Jayce72 if you look at my profile next to this post you will see i have my Vin numbers posted in it but as Hell stated only the Holy ones can see it :)

The Depollution Fault could be anything from a false signal to a blocked DPF.
Some on here will remind me but i had similar symptoms drive wise and after a lot of help part of the issue was the double butterfly air doser which had a sticky valve.
My old Devil Car had more issues but the only way i could describe driving it was like a blocked fuel filter at random times, foot flat and nothing, but no smoke etc, but pulling away from a junction was a bit of a lottery.
Due to the way the DPF regen is carried out a faulty air doser will throw on the DPF fault light.
Rest assured the Holy ones do need the Vin and then once the full specs of the vehicle are known the rest of us can chip in with advice
The Vin number allows the Holy ones to see what the vehicle left the factory with, and in most cases if there were any upgrades to replacement parts

Without going into too may details I can ascertain you have the 110 DW10ATED4 engine with particle filter, so the warning light may refer to any part of the emissions system including the DPF, EGR or a general blockage, but a diagnostic will need to be done realistically.
