Xsara II 2001 blower not working

Hey there,

Im trying to fix the blower motor on my Xsara II 2001.
When I bought it, the fan was already broken. The previous owner told me it was because there as a leak on the AC lines (Which sounded like BS to me).

Before sending the car to an AC shop, i think its best for me to try to fix it before.

Today i removed the motor and did some simple tests, like testing the motor itself with a 12v power supply and looking for some obvious issues with the resistor.
I also used the Lexia to try to find any issues with the blower. It seems like an Open circuit issue:

(by moving the dial, the "blower motor status" changes to Auto, OFF, ??? and MAX)
The previous owner also said it changed the resistor a short while before he sold the car.

Of course, i did some digging around and found someone with a similar problem, but i don't think its solution works on my case.

I did some additional testing yesterday.
I was measuring the voltage off the yellow and orange wires. No matter where the blower dial was set, the multi-meter always read 12v.
If I shorted the wires, the fan came on at full power. Using the multi-meter with a resistance, I was able to control the fan speed.

From what i can guess, the resistor is working fine.
The issue seems to be the speed control from the computer. I don´t think its control dials, since Lexia can read the states pretty well.

Quick Update:
I was able to use the blower using a 20k Potentiometer to control and turn off the blower, which is better than nothing, i guess.
I also unplugged the AC/Blower computer for a few days and plugged it back again. After doing that, the compressor kicked in. With the compressor working, i was able to add refrigerant to the system.

Im guessing its an issue with the AC module (69509000.F). When i find a replacement, I will report the results.

Hey there, issue solved!

I was able to buy a new module with a slightly different model number (69509020.F), but it didn't help with the issue.
I was at a loss at this point, so I started phoning some junkyards looking for a similar Xsara and found one.

After swapping the motor assembly (it was really crusty with dust and rust), the fan kicked in.
Turns out, the brand new resistor that the previous owner installed was bad. I swapped it with the rusty one and now everything works fine. No idea how long it will last, but its one less problem to deal with.

Glad you have it working - but most second hand resistors bought on the aftermarket for these are absolute rubbish and most are dead on arrival. Best to buy a decent branded or original one and avoid cheap copies - it saves a lot of grief in the end.
