Berlingo 2011 Horn not working - relay ?
I have a 2011 (built late 2011) Berlingo 1.6 HDi XTR and the horn does not work.
The horn has been replaced. The horn fuse (and all the fuses) in the fuse box under the bonnet test ok. When the horn button (air bag assembly) on the steering wheel is pressed there is a click from the relay in the fuse box both with the ignition on and off.
Is it possible to test the horn relay and if necessary replace it ?
Any suggestions/advice gratefully received.
Tony.

I'll need a VIN to see exactly what model this is, but it mat be the multiplexed wiring behind the airbag module that is chafing or a bad connection there.

Hi Tony, ok, so you can check fuse F12 in the engine fuse box which supplies the relay, although if it's clicking then I expect it is fine to be honest.

The horn has a 2 pin white connector as shown in diagram A (2521), part of harness 10PR - and the specific earthing point is MC10 as shown in the second diagram.

Simplest test for a relay is by substitution.

Not in these Mr Ordinaire!
The relays are contained in the engine fuse box module - non user serviceable

Re: Berlingo 2011 Horn not working - relay ?
The horn is working again
The two pin connector on the horn was the culprit. I pulled the plug off the horn and plugged it back together again several times and seemingly that cleaned up the contacts enough. I also used a couple of cable ties to help hold the plug and socket tight together.
Hopefully that should be ok for the foreseeable future, but it's quite a poor quality connector so I'll see how it goes.

No problem, it had to be electrical really, so probably a loose connection at the plug.

Re: Berlingo 2011 Horn not working - relay ?
Down-front electrical connections can have a rough time - weather, road spray, engine bay heat, etc.
Use some contact cleaner (or WD40 if that's all available) and a bit of repeated re-plugging (as you did) to clean the contacts up. Glad the French Horn section is working again!

Had no idea they'd gone as far as making relays complicated - but, of course, I shouldn't be surprised.GiveMeABreak wrote: 20 Nov 2019, 22:39 Not in these Mr Ordinaire!

Re: Berlingo 2011 Horn not working - relay ?
I was going around in circles
Used the pics here
Checked the fuse
Loosened, moved around the earth point and retightened
Accessed the horn through N/S wheel arch
13mm ratchet ring to unto the bolt
WD40 and reseated the connections a load of times
Tried the horn directly to battery (worked fine)
In the end had my son hold the horn button on steering wheel WHILE I disconnected and reconnected the horn - it blipped.
If the connector is pushed all the way home it fails, if almost all the way it's fine. I put a piece of plastic in the connector and then pushed tight (but not clicked) and wapped in insulating tape
Seems to work fine now
Hope this may help others

Re: Berlingo 2011 Horn not working - relay ?
Hi guys, I'm having a similar issue with my horn. 2015 Berlingo van It was intermittently working but now has stopped completely. Should there be a live feed to the horn? I've checked all the fuses and read somewhere that there should be a live at the horn and it earth's through the steering wheel when pushed?

I'm not sure about the Berlingo bot others I have had were operated via the ECU.

Re: Berlingo 2011 Horn not working - relay ?
That's not quite correct, there is no direct connection to the horn & the steering wheel. a signal is sent down the CAN when the switch is pressed, this passed through he BSI then onto the under bonnet fuse box, this then triggers a relay to operate the horn.RoadRunner24 wrote: 10 Sep 2024, 16:35 Hi guys, I'm having a similar issue with my horn. 2015 Berlingo van It was intermittently working but now has stopped completely. Are you getting a live feed at the horn unit?
