Handling

Unread post by Neilied »

Had the car a month or so and had to take it back as there was a funny clunk when turning the wheel. Felt only through pedals though. They diagnosed ARB and replaced. It helped but still this clunk. Also now at low speed full lock it seems to go over on itself almost like a slow mo understeer. The steering is feeling very implanted and skittish especially in the wet. Could anyone advise on what should be looked for as I am going to return it again for another look. Thanks

Sounds like a lower ball joint to me....easy for other things as well, do not drive it until sorted !

To your knowledge, have you kerbed it, or hit one of the wheels into an object from the side (regardless of whether there was any physical outward damage)? A knock can affect the power steering internals - so that's one suggestion.

Next, do you get any clunk when going over a speed hump or pot hole, or when braking firmly / taking off? That could indicate a bush on the wishbone worn.

Thanks for all replies. After having an alfa Gtv v6 for sometime, I’m savvy with wishbone issues and the clunk knocks and tramlining. ( front wishbones on the alfa were almost biannual replacements), this feels a little bloated wallow kind of feeling and the clunk more a boing although they have said the springs were checked.
