508 2012 driver side no hot air fault.

Unread post by jmptrsn »

Hello everyone, I need a little help if someone can give me some ideas, please.

this is my first post here and I've looked around the forums and read a lot of helpful information but nothing relating to my current issue. If there is a post there please link to me and ill remove this one.

Problem: dual climate air condition
No hot air coming from both driver side front vents. But blows cold AC fine.
Tested:
flashed heater core on the passenger side, with heater core out checked all flaps inside are intact and working. all cogs and motors on both left and right have been removed and checked okay.
exterior inspection of all parts moving when turning the heater on.
Current:
Full dashboard removed. ac/heater system exposed

passenger and driver side on hottest temp, turn down passenger to cold, and it blows lukewarm on the driver side for few seconds then goes back to cold( not sure if relevant )

please let me know if I've missed anything and happy to answer any questions(or post photos)

Hi, and :welc: to the Forum. I am not going to be able to help you personally, but I feel certain somebody with experience of the 508 will be able to give you good advice.

Hi, and :welc: to the Forum also. Similarly to James I have little to offer with your actual problem but the right chaps will be along soon. Meanwhile have a look round the forum from the Board Index above and join in wherever it takes your fancy. Good luck with the aircon. :-D

Post your VIN up so I can check out the system you have installed.

I suspect that it is the air mixing flaps on the driver side that have worn cogs. They may be operating motor wise but not turning as the plastic gears can wear.

But I’ll know better when I have your VIN

Thank you for all your kind replies.

VIN : VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

are those cogs fully inside the unit and can't be seen without opening it up? (or cutting in)
I wouldn't mind trying to open it as I've already removed dashboard

The flaps can distort and jam, causing the gears to strip. Check for stuck flaps.

Ok, so here are the sections of the heating gear. These are slightly different to some other models in that they have 'rods' .

The reduction gear modules are at 6 & 78 & 9 are replacement kits

Here's a close up of one of the internals and is the unit on the diagram that I have arrowed in green.

Item (5) Pollen filter?

Not really, that would affect all the air not just the hot air as it filters all the air before it enters the cabin.
