C6 2.7 HDI intake manifold cleaning

Post by cornesoutafrica »

Hi Everyone

Well since my car is getting closer to finally arrive (ETA october), I have been thinking of an issue with all modern Diesels and the C6 2.7 and 2.2 for that matter is no exception. Due to the EGR the intake manifold do gunk up. Has anyone ever completely remove the intake manifold and clean it properly? I bet with a simple clean or decarbon the fuel economy will increase and just keep the car running as it is supposed to run.

Also, when you replace the diesel filter, do you only have to switch the ignition on and off a few times for the electric fuel pump to prime the filter or is there a more detailed description.

Lastly the diesel pump drivebelt. Should the pump be in a certain position in relation with the camshaft when replacing the belt?

Kind regards
Corne

Elis has cleaned his manifold recently on his C5 X7 (2.0 HDi), but some pics you might find interesting:

This is just the part of the process after you have refitted it. You need the diesel filter draining union that it refers to as (7):
Corne C6 Fuel filter.PNG

Couple the female union (Ø 10 mm) of the tool[7] in place of the pipe (3), as "b".
Disconnect the fuel return pipe (13) and insert the union (Ø8 mm) of the tool [7] into the fuel return circuit.
Switch the engine on and off 10 times in order to fill and bleed the fuel filter.
Remove:
The tool [7]
The tool [6] from the pipe (3)
Couple up pipes (3) and (13).
Switch the engine on and off 2 times.

Yes the dynamic tensioner roller on the high pressure fuel pump needs to be immobilised. A rather lengthy procedure - if you need it let me know.

Hi Marc

Thanks for the descriptions.
Please let me have the description for the diesel pump belt change?
Coming Monday is the big day here. Will post some pictures then too!

Another question. I saw a product called ‘Adblue’. I guess it won’t suffice for our use? I believe it has the same purpose as Eolys?

Hi Corne - I will get something to you tomorrow - but NOOOOOO! Don't put that stuff anywhere near your vehicle.

It's not Eolys or or any other type of particulate filter additive - it's basically cow pee or urea. It is only used in later vehicles with SRC technology. That's Selective Catalytic Reduction. It basically gets injected into the special catalytic converter to eliminate the NOx. Then the particles get dealt with by the diesel particulate filter in the normal way using a Cerine-based additive like Eolys.

Normally found in the Blue HDI vehicles from 2013 on. These have an Adblue tank and a DPF tank, but have completely separate functions.

Here's a short video:

Hi Marc

Ok. Thought that would be the case. So will ofcourse get the correct product. Was worth asking, thanks for explanation.

I did the fuel filter change on my C6 as she arrived this week. The filter was black. Completely utterly black. Changed it and the process was quite easy conpared to my nissan pickup. Took the time to tinker at the intake manifold sensor. It looks like an intake pressure sensor. It was covered in soot and gunk from the intake. It looked horrible. Cleaned that and the two MAF sensors wirh a maf cleaner spray. Also, on the intake. The piece that connects the intake with the boost pipe has got a sensor. I would guess something like an air intake sensor which was also covered in gunk. Cleaned that aswell. The car sounds a bit more responsive with throttle openings. But will see once I take her fir a drive eventually. Will open a thread with more details as the rear calipers handbrake functionality was seized. Repaired aswell. But will post on a new thread. Still a tonne of work coming.

Why not just start up a blog about your C6? Other forum members have done so, and they usually are both entertaining and informative.

Although I am 30 and supposed to be a millenial, I am completely stupid with how to even start a blog  8-[ But that said I still hope the thread will help others in the forum as so many has helped me up to now that I have to start give back. I am still new to the C6 but guess I will learn along the way and do some updates. I do service and restore classic Citroens www.classicdservices.com so this is just a modern type of restoration, I hope 8-[

So off to a new thread and some more descriptive details and photos

Simple. Go to Board Index/Members Area/Blogs and Galleries and then click on the New Topic button. Now you can start a new thread, just for your C6 blog.

Ah. Great thanks. I will do Hellrazor.

Ok. Just one more question. Turbolag and the 2.7 hdi. Do they have quite a bit and also quite a bit more than the 3.0 hdi? Im slightly dissapointed. Thats why I’d like to clean the intake manifolds. But my idea is shortlived as it seems you need to remove the injectors to remove the intake manifold which seems to also be the tappetcover?
