C4 2005 Cruise Control Buttons

Post by admiral51 »

Having gone back to driving the C4 after fixing ( [-o< ) the fusebox issues i have problems with the cruise control/speed limiter function but it seems this issue has been on going for over 12 months and does not throw up a fault on DiagBox sessions ( SWMBO lol )

When they engage they both work fine, well for a little while, but more often than not it throws up a service warning light on the head up display when adjusting speed or switching between them
Vin VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

The selection of Limiter/Cruise is via a rotary switch with a pause button above it and the +/- speed settings for both around it.
I have noticed a delay in the display showing a switch between both modes, sometimes up to 10 seconds.
If i push down on the rotary switch as i move between settings the display shows up mode instantly.
Looking on Service.Citroen it shows the buttons/rotary switch as a separate item but to my mind it seems the 2 parts are not making a proper contact, i am using my limited brain and knowledge of electronic wizardry on a 14 yr old car to think that there is a circuit that needs to be made ( key fob buttons etc ) and when i squeeze the 2 parts together it all works lol

So could i spray contact cleaner between the top and bottom parts without doing any damage to any other parts ?

As usual totally going off on a whim but hey, until you try :)

I’ll need to know what the message being displayed is that you mentioned earlier. Wishful thinking having a HUD on a C4, so I’ll define that as the multi function display you meant!

It’s not uncommon for the cruise and speed limiter functions to be disabled by the engine ECU if there is a fault with the air or fuel system. So we would need to see if there is fault logged that has been causing this.

The control module under the steering wheel houses the audio remote and cruise stalks, which are the only ones sold separately. It is possible that the cruise stalk has an issue, but these are rarely heard of, simply because the stalks are not used nearly enough to wear unlike the indicator or light stalk for example.

So run a diagnostic or consult the log for stored errors and see what has been recorded if anything.

Okay last pic is my speedo ie my HUD lol
On this display bottom right will show up Service when Cruise/Limiter plays up but will go away when whichever mode is turned off.
As you can see in other pics the rotary button and +/- buttons for setting of both Cruise and limiter.

Does this muddy waters more lol

*** Edit The service/warning is shown under the seat belt lights

Right so my bad - of course this is a C4, so the cruise is embedded into the central boss module - so no stalks.

There's a brand new one here for £90, current Citroen price is £369.47 inc. VAT

Well 2 days in and i have to say everything seems to be working as intended [-o<

This C4 has been in our ownership for just over 3 years and, after some heated discussions, it seems that i am the only one who actually uses the Limiter/Cruise function #-o

Have i maybe cleared some contact issues out by using it ?
Switching between the modes and setting the speed caused problems for it but it seems to be behaving itself now, even after leaving it overnight it remembers the last speed limit set and press the pause/active button and it does not come up with the beep and service light.
Will be running Lexia on it this weekend but fingers crossed lol

Yes that is now a problem for me, the good lady is waiting to see what happens in regards to have i fixed all the main issues with the fusebox swap and she seems to be quite happy with the current arrangement of car swapping...........................

Me thinks i will not be back in the drivers seat of the Xantia for a long time

She just happened to mention today that she needs to keep an eye on her speed in the Xantia as she was doing 85 mph thinking she was only doing 60 mph down the dual carriageway #-o

Keeping an eye on the post as they have 14 days to send a ticket through the postal system [-o<

Don't count on it! I waited for a year to get a summons when stopped in a 30 zone by a copper with nothing better to do than point his toy radar gun at people trying to go about their business. £260 fine the *******.

If you are pulled over the law is different, you have been notified at the time of the offense, if done by a camera/sneaky van etc then the registered keeper must be informed in writing within 14 days of the alleged infringement.
Steve you are correct it has been thrown out of court as it breached the 14 day limit

Okay so just run the Lexia and faults were associated with top of steering column, cleared them all, took it for a run and used cruise/limiter with no problems, another Lexia check has shown up no problems with the cruise/limiter :)

My son has had my car in Scotland this past week. Got shoved into a tram lane in Edinburgh, expecting the dreaded notice any day now.
