Front suspension , Drive shaft rebuild, Help

Post by Huskyxantia »

I'm needing as much help, advice regarding my old zx estate .
Its 1.9D no turbo no power steering soon to be 25 yr old.

It recently passed its MOT. With advisory to keep eye on pinch bolt ,lower ball joint off side front.

I was checking everyday before use and it had no movement and the bolt was as it should be.

Thursday evening a loud bang , I managed to get the car grounded on a grass verge and part in a hedge, recovery that's another story for another day.

Went back to the mot place he's going to make sure car is all square after a new driveshaft and lower balljoint is fitted and he's going to give me the heads up on what's what.

My plan of action.

New driveshaft on its way
New lower balljoint on its way

Also considering.

New front legs

I need to know what's needed for the front legs the fitting is easy enough just need to know stuff like bolts type size and so on.

The incident happen as finding out the lower wishbone purchased off a site wasn't the correct fitment, I trusted this seller as they claimed to have an excellent track record and many years of experience.
When I found out what the part looks like I went mad, I've had a massive row with the seller and they say sorry warranty is out as its been over 2 years on the car.. Its only covered 800 miles as I rebuilt all the suspension and steering two year just over had major health issues and took the car off the road while I recovered, I'm in remission now and live this old car to bits and thought I was going to get out from the crash and see it all smashed up ..... It wasn't !! Just my side the wheel was facing east to west !! The drop links ain't even bent , thankfully I was doing about 28mph to 32mph and held the wheel straight and planted it where I was looking to stop.

Me and the wife got out and where shaken but fine.
If the two young people , couple that helped us ever get to read this I cannot thank you enough and will be forever great full.

So

Any help ?

I would pop the reg into Mr Auto site and buy a quality bearing from them. I have had the non turbo non power steering ZX. Keep fit steering but great feel on the road. I think the engine would go forever if looked after.

If you want OEM parts info, you need to supply your VIN and be specific on the actual part, then I can help.

There's only 1 part number for XU engined ZXs - 335016. Surprisingly only £37.04 at the dealer - however, it's a widely used bearing, so I would expect it to be easily available aftermarket from SKF (I would only fit an SKF or SNR bearing - unless you want to do it again in a few months!). e.g https://www.mister-auto.co.uk/wheel-bea ... /vkba-915/ if you search on VKBA-915 you will no doubt find plenty of others.

That bearing looks like it might put up a bit of a fight before it is released from the hub carrier!!

That's right - the outer race of your bearing is still in the hub carrier and needs to be pressed out - after you remove the circlip that's presumably hiding in there somewhere disguised as rusty crud...!

If you identify any other part numbers you need, just tell me the item numbers in the diagram. I wasn’t sure if you needed the self locking nut (16), but ask if you do.

Thank you,
As many numbers as possible.
I'm rebuilding the complete side so all and any parts numbers would be great.
What threw me was the wheel bearing I thought it had all come out , till someone confirmed on here the rest was still in the hub, I've got a pressing kit so that a be fun , said no one ever..
Thank you again
