Citroen C5 X7 2011 Oil Temp Gauge
Good evening all. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the digital blocks equate to in oil temperature on the oil temp gauge on the C5. Mine is a late 2011 model with the 163hp diesel engine and I've always wondered what temp it shows when it's almost 3/4 lit up.

Here are the temperature equivalents. Took me a whole to locate. The manual says that it should remain in zone 1 under normal conditions, and only under harsh conditions enter zone 2 - where you should slow down and check levels.
Temperature Segments:

It is interesting to note the uneven steps between each segment lighting, between 2° and 33°

Thanks for this. It is helpful to know the temp especially as I am towing too.

Maybe Citroen consider that anything between 80 and 145 degrees is a normal operating temperature, and so does not need 'fine' accuracy, while anything outside of that range is abnormal, and needs monitoring.

Anything to 149 is fine, anything 151 to 160 should not be maintained (only 13 segments are shown in the picture, but there are 15).

Re: Citroen C5 X7 2011 Oil Temp Gauge
Hi Marc,
do you (or anyone else?) by any chance happen to have any info on this for a mk1 c5? Citroen in their infinite wisdom decided to use unmarked gauges for voltage, coolant and oil temperature which is not very useful and my cars last owner got rid of the manual book for some reason...
I could assume that the scale is the same as on a 407 which has marked gauges but I noticed that the 407 coolant gauge shows 90c in the middle while mine is actually around 78c in the middle so that makes me doubt the oil gauge. I know there aren't any mk1/facelift manuals online (only the x7) so I guess if you don't have access to any either my last hope to figure out the scale would be to drag out the lexia laptop and check the actual oil temperature on that (as the phone based bluetooth obd2 scanner won't report oil temp).

Re: Citroen C5 X7 2011 Oil Temp Gauge
Based on the temperature ranges I believe the gauge on the left is for the coolant, while the gauge on the right is for the oil. I have had two Mk1 C5s (although they had a more crowded instrument panel), and the coolant gauge was on the left according to the handbook.

Re: Citroen C5 X7 2011 Oil Temp Gauge
Yeah, maybe I should have written my question in another way. What I meant was that the middle of the coolant gauge on the 407 is 90c while on my c5 the middle of the gauge is 78c so the scale is clearly different. That makes me think if the oil temp gauge also has a different scale and so the position of the c5 gauge can't be compared to the 407 gauge (which has the temperature written on it instead of being blank) in order to estimate the oil temperature on the c5.

Re: Citroen C5 X7 2011 Oil Temp Gauge
The oil pressure on these is generally checked (if necessary) using an oil pressure gauge that's put in place of the oil filter and after the engine has reached 110 °C and after checking the oil level.
For your engine (DW12TED4):
at 1000 RPM the Min Oil Pressure read on the gauge should be 2 Bar
at 2000 RPM the Min Oil Pressure read on the gauge should be 4 Bar
A lot trouble to go to to check the pressure - unless you suspect there is an issue.

Re: Citroen C5 X7 2011 Oil Temp Gauge
Hi Marc,
no issues suspected, just curious. However I think you may have mistaken my question for another, as I wanted to know about the temperature not pressure and if there was any scale like the one you posted for the x7 in the second post but instead for my mk1
As you probably know the mk1 has an oil TEMPERATURE gauge but it does not have any actual writing on it like the picture of a 407, just blue and red on bottom and top of the gauge limits which is why I was asking about it.
EDIT: added picture to show better what I actually mean

Ok so this is what I have specific to this model:
Oil Level - Instrument Panel Segments
Key
In the event of receiving an invalid value, the 6 lower segments of the display and the "min" pictogramme flash, the "max" pictogramme remains unlit.

Display | Fluid level |

4 | From 40% to 53% |
5 | From 54% to 67% |
6 | From 68% to 81% |
7 | From 82% to 100% |

Re: Citroen C5 X7 2011 Oil Temp Gauge
Ok, thank you for checking anyway. I think I will just take the lexia laptop with me once I go on a longer trip and check the actual temperature compared to the gauge position.
