C5 (X7) too low rider!

Unread post by Viitonen »

Hello,

My 2009 2.0hdi said yesterday, while driving: suspension failure, max speed 90km/h.

When I got to my garage, the car was a lot lower than normally. Tried to raise it with no help.

So, I thought that maybe I’m low with LDS liquid. I connected the diagbox and depressurized the system. The LDS was fine.

Diagbox gave the following fault codes:
C1141
C1146
U1118
U2118
U2005

But after I depressurized it, the car is now LOW and will not rise again! Fuses and maxi fuses are ok.

Where would you check next. Help needed!

Ok, so these are the faults:

C1141: Front body height sensor fault
C1146: Rear body height sensor fault
U1118: Fault absence of communication with the built-in systems interface : No signal
U2118: Partial reawakening of BSI - Status word not valid, Fault: BSI1, Fault: Partial triggering status word not valid for 3 successive datastreams.
U2005: Triggering (vehicle speed receipt anomaly) : Not characterised

So the issue seems to be a communication fault on the network. The Suspension ECU is not getting the body height sensor data, or the suspension ECU has lost communication with the BSI - The BSI appears to be central to this as there seems to be a triggering fault on the network.

First things - what condition is the battery in? A poor battery can be the cause of a lot of electrical issues. Try a BSI reset. But until the BSI is operating properly, it won't authorise any height correction as it can't tell what the height currently is because of the communication issue. By depressurising the system with Lexia, you have over-ridden the control and the valves have allowed all the fluid back to the tank. Repressurising will take place when the car is started again, but as it cannot determine the height values, it won't allow this, as it doesn't know what height the car is at.

It's never a good idea to depressurise until you know the fault, because at least with the car in normal height it will stay at that height, but will not all ow raising or lowering until the problem is resolved. Now you are stuck on low...

I'll check the fuses now for you, but I'll need your VIN to get the right diagram.

Thanks Marc, you’re the best! 💪

BSI reset? How to make that?

I have noticed, when I open the door locks, it says on the display ”economy mode on”. Doesn’t this sound like the battery can indeed be a little poor?

About the VIN, are you able to check that from my previous post, I remember I sent it to you earlier? Won’t be able to check it before tomorrow.

Again, thanks!

Ok, I've located your VIN from an earlier post. :)

I would give it a charge first - you can charge the battery on the vehicle, as long as the charger complies with the following:
  • Voltage limited to 16 V
  • Adjustable maximum current
  • Programmable or limited duration of charging
  • Stopping of charging at a minimum current
  • Safety from the risks of inverting the polarity
Connect the battery charger leads to the battery terminals in the following sequence:
  • Connect the positive cable of the charger on the positive terminal of the battery
  • Connect the negative cable of the charger on the negative terminal of the battery
Once you have charged the battery:

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

So try the above and you then know the BSI has been reinitialised. If, when you connect the battery back up your hear the suspension pump kicking in, that may indicate that things are back to normal. If is stays on it may try to raise the car back to normal. Try starting the car and seeing if it then does try to stabilse the height.

I'll now check the fuses for you.

Thank you very much! I have a CTEK multi XS 3600 charger, which should be ok. I’ll start with that and then carefully follow your instructions and hope everything works out fine!

I had those codes when my suspension pump blew the fuse. I know you said your fuse was ok, but can you heat the pump running when you try and lift the car up at all?

Here’s upgrade of what has happened.

Recharged the battery. Did BSI reboot. No help.

I am unable to hear the pump, since there is too much noise in my garage (air vents etc).

I must re-check all the fuses.

Marc, two more questions:
- Where is this BSI located (and the fuses)?
- Fuse box from the battery? Where is that? Is it the red cover box between battery and fender? If so, how do I open it?

Thanks!

If the pump is not coming on then the 40A fuse may have blown as a result of strain on the motor, possibly due to LDS ingress and build up of bush / oil material.

Do the easy things first - thorough checks of fuses - not just a visual check.

On left hand drive, the BSI is inside under the driver left hand side stowage tray - inside there, which will include the fuse box in the second diagram. The other fuse box is under the bonnet near the battery.

The fuse box near battery, you probably don’t mean the actual large fuse box? Those fuses look really strange and I cannot find that box.
