X7 electric tailgate

Opened the tailgate last night and it wouldn't shut, had to force it down. since then the tailgate only opens half way and it still doesn't close, I will get Lexia on later to see what, if anything I can find......

Is there an easy way to reset the tailgate I wonder?

DON”T force it!

There are lots of reasons why it may not shut including a backup mode if there is an obstruction detected somewhere in the seal, or a voltage problem, etc.

Get your Lexia on it and there will very likely be a fault code. List them here if any and I’ll be able to get a little more info for you.

These do not need reprogramming even if the battery is disconnected. The only thing that can be normally changed is the preferred opening angle.

Pop the codes up with your VIN and I’ll see what they point to.

No, no codes whatsoever, I’ve just noticed the switch on the tailgate (red one) isn’t lit, checked the fuse and that’s fine.....

Found one code F065 absence of communication with the motorised boot unit ECU

These are the Actuator tests you can perform Steve with Diagbox. Note the testing conditions and see if any of these work or don't in the absence of any codes:

Also check the car isn't going into economy mode. This has been a thorn for Tourer owners with motorised tailgate. I did post a fix to defer Economy mode back to the delegation of the BSI from the Battery Charge Status Unit due to the very short operational times it was providing any equipment with ignition switched off.

Tried the actuator test for the boot control, and it doesn’t unlock the boot, I also tried the buzzer test and that’s fine.

The red button on the tailgate isn’t lighting up, so I’m wondering if maybe the switch has failed? The tailgate comes half open using the fob and/or the exterior boot switch, but won’t close.

There are no fault codes showing of any kind
