xantia bump stops c5 ones fit

Unread post by c.morewood »

Having searched the web for Xantia bump stop replacements.. I be found that with a small modification, C5 bump stops will fit the Xantia. You need to cut the flat base of the stop to fit the slight v shape of the Xantia, then cross cut the nipple with a Stanley knife, grease it and use a long handled 5mm flat blade screwdriver to ease the nipple, far side first, into the hole. Hope this helps..
PS its no longer an MOT fail or advisory.

I had to do something similar (in 2015), Chris, for our XM rear bump stops (inside the large circular cross-tube).
The original (5166.52) had crumbled, and was NFP:

A C5 item (5166.66) still available, and just needed some trimming of height, top and base-angle:

Final result:

Other possibilities, still available then seemed to be
5166.77 (C5 & C6)
5166.37 (Saxo) h=48mm
5166.44 (Saxo) h=61mm
5166.42 (Xantia)

That's the v shape I was talking about.. I was a bit too severe with the cuts on mine.. but was rushed trying to get them fitted less than an hour before the MOT. I failed and needn't have worried as they're no longer part of the MOT. At least this is publicised now so others can use the information.

Should've put a smiley at the end to show I was being facetious. Sorry.

No problem, just paying homage to the strut top solution, the welding and fabrication thread, steering rack mods, hydraulic valve mods and the like that have been discussed lately 😊

Make Do And Mend, mixed with a bit of lateral thinking.

BTW, if you have a C5 Mk 1 or 2, it pays to check your stops. Mine were missing! My towbar was hitting the road reversing out of my driveway, and tht was the cause.

I've used Powerflex before (for polyurethane ARB bushes, to replace the useless 'rubber' ones on a RAV4), and found them very good. A huge range of OE replacements, as well as generic items.
