That's the damper / shock absorber. Shouldn't be too hard to change - if you can get the bolts undone. You should really change both to avoid wrecking the handling.

errr... that's your suspension strut and a very sorry one it's looking too! :-D

I've rotated it to make it clearer to see. Easy enough job for a garage to do - but you'll might need a shock absorber compression tool in order to get the damper on.

It's just the damper Marc - these use torsion bars for springs. No special tools, just put a jack under the trailing arm to take the weight when you take the bottom bolt out.

Even better then! :-D They do go on about using some compression tool and a dummy damper to set the height - but as you've obviously done a few of these, that's one less thing to worry about.

Thats when setting the ride height or the rear axle - the torsion bars have some adjustment.

I would use some with the gators on as they are there for a reason - there is a lot of Cr*p gathers around them - try GSF parts

Interchangeable names , back in the earlier days they were called shock absorbers then we 'Americanised' and called them dampers, old timers like me still call them shocks.

I think this is the one instance where Americans have changed English for the better, as damper more accurately describes what they actually do.

True enough but they are still not forgiven.
