That will be the valve blocks. Unlike the manufacturer claims, these are not sealed for life. The oil will gradually burn and degrade and as it degrades it can't do as good a job and starts circulating the fine crud around the box. Doing an oil flush in several stages a couple of times at least will afford some better protection and keep the gearbox running in peak condition.

13000. Or 130000?

13000 is nothing. You don’t need to change it as often as the engine oil. I changed mine at 133000 and the old ATF was very dark, so I think it needed it.

Hello,

what is the difference between Aisin Premium ATF 6 and Aisin Premium ATF 6 + FE? Which oil is better for P508, year 2011, EURO5 engine?

Thanks.

It’s not the engine, but the gearbox that is what matters when selecting ATF. We can only guess which car you’re talking about and once we work that out, which gearbox it has.

I'm not familiar with Peugeots, but when I look it up on an oil manufacturer site they say it requires the same ATF as my car which has the AM6-AT6 gearbox (the later version of the AM6). However, do not trust those sites. The only way to be sure is to look at the label on the gearbox. If it's in the same spot as Citroens it's under the air filter. You need to take out the air filter box to see it (easy).

You can't use the wrong spec ATF. Once you know the gearbox model, there are a few different brands of ATF that will work. You don't have to use the expensive PSA one.

I think he’s referring to the Euro standard of the vehicle, which determines the type of oil for the gearbox. I.e you can’t use some of the earlier oil types in the later AM6 gearboxes.

@Aljo221: Put your vehicle VIN up for me and I can confirm oil type for you.

I don't know if I would even trust the VIN. I'd be checking the gearbox label to really be sure (certainly wouldn't hurt and is easy). I was going to do a friends 2 litre C5 expecting it to be the older box, but it was the later one (we didn't check it by VIN though).

The specs from the VIN will give me all the info I need direct from Peugeot. We've done this with hundreds of members, it's why we have an account to avoid third party websites and data that is often incorrect and does not have the details of the box fitted to the owners specific vehicle.

Ok, so you have a Euro 5 standard car, so your officially recommended oil is JWS 3324 or equivalent.

Now, to go back to your original question about the Aisin Oils. The difference is the type of formulation. The later ATF 6+ FE (Fuel Economy) is designed for the later AM6 gearboxes that includes the one fitted on your 508. As you can see, the JWS 3324 oil is specifically designated on the ATF 6+ FE data sheet, so is designed to compliment the later AM6 boxes.

I've put the main characteristics below too, so you can see the differences:

So if you want to use Aisin oil, then make sure it meets the JWS 3324 standard as shown.

Marc, thank you so much for the perfect answer. I wasn’t sure which oil was right, now I know. Thanks again.

One more question.
The previous owner changed the oil by flushing the transmission, and inside is now the Mobil JWS3309.
Would anything hurt the gearbox if I make 4-5 partial exchanges with Aisin 6+ oil?

Thanks

So the previous owner has used the wrong oil.

As you can only partially drain the torque converter, you can never fully flush all the oil out. So often it takes about 3 flushes to get it as near as you can to a full change. If you do a lot of mileage, then you could do 3 changes over a shorter period, but if used only occasionally, then I would wait a few months in between doing the 3 changes. It will take some use to get the new oil circulating and mixing with the remaining old oil so that you get more of the old oil out each time you do the change.

Don't forget you'll need Diagbox to reset the Oil Counter on the Gearbox ECU after each change - or certainly after the last oil change at least.

I would suggest that given the expense of the premium oil, that you maybe use a cheaper (that still meets the specifications) for doing the first couple of flushes and then keep the expensive oil for the last change.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I just ordered 16 l of Aisin ATF6 + EF.
What should be the interval between each change of 3 l of oil? I do about 50km a day. I will make 4-5 changes. Is there nothing wrong with mixing oils?
I have a Diagbox, so that's not a problem.
