C3 Picasso 2016---- where is OBD2 port?

Post by rmunns »

This is a petrol 1,2litre, 110bhp. Can anyone please tell me where to find the diagnostics socket?
The consumption is not good, I have bought a gizmo which, it claims, will help reduce this. Anyone please help?

According to the Citroen Service Website "The diagnostic socket is located under the dashboard lower trim (left-hand side)."

Hopefully this link will work or you.

Don't waste your money on fuel saving gizmos - a waste of time and money and many have been proven to be a complete con! If they actually did anything, don't you think the car manufacturers would of fitted them already to improve their sales?

Some of the magnetic ones attached to the fuel lines claim to polarise the 'fuel molecules'! Well seeing as fuel is non-polar, there isn't anything in the fuel for a magnet to influence! :-D

As Stu has already said above, the diagnostic socket is on the left hand side - this picture shows a LHD vehicle - but ignore that - it will 99.9% be in the same location, even if the trim panel is different:

Two things. One, I had a 2004 Xsara Picasso 2.0Hdi90 for 4 years. I kept a religious full-to-full fuel consumption record. For the first year (9000miles) I got an average of 46mpg. I fitted a 10-stage electronic gizmo (£55) for the next 3 years (23000miles) and improved the fuel consumption to 54mpg. In addition the performance certainly got better after the fitting.
Two: after 3000km with the C3 Picasso, we are using 6,0litres for every 100km (we live in France). That is, 47mpg. When we bought the car we expected more like 60mpg.
The gizmo I fitted to the Xsara went under the bonnet and I had to unplug a lead and insert the gizmo into plug and socket left. Now the technique seems to plug straight into the OBD socket, so I want to use that system. Of course, when the car goes into the garage for its servicing I would take out the device, the fact that it had been fitted being, hopefully, non-traceable.

Right - so now we are talking about an engine tuning chip - slightly different. Again, some of these do absolutely nothing (except take your cash) - and there have been some videos to prove this. Other types - like the one you described will plug into the fuel injection ECU and increase the fuel / air mixture to increase the power - often over-fuelling the car. So effectively you'll be getting more power with less use of the throttle. A proper engine remap will be able to control more of the cars settings than just the fuelling and are therefore better - often called custom remaps - made for your specific car.

But these will take a toll on other areas of the car - like the DMF / Clutch as more power will strain other components. When I enquired years ago about a custom remap - I asked about wear and tear and was advised to make sure the clutch / DMF were in good condition before I had the work done because an engine remap will increase the strain on these components. Needless to say I decided not to have it done!

I had a tuning chip (or economy chip) fitted to my Mark II C5 and within 3 weeks I took it off. A complete waste of £300 IMHO and it went straight back under guarantee for a complete refund. It made no discernable difference to my MPG or performance. I know some of these plug in chips cannot access the main ECU, so the car can't update the MPG figures - so the only way you can check extra MPG is to manually record the fuelling refills - but this is not really that accurate given the variances in driving conditions over the same period and conditions. But - this will be down to the individual to decide. There is always the placebo type effect - thinking that 'because one has a chip tuning / gadget installed one must be getting improvements' type scenario to consider.

As a 71 year-old scientist I like to think that I took proper precautions to ensure I got sensible results from my tests. Because we were interested in reducing consumption, the engine was never stretched. I rated the results well worth obtaining. I have not been able to find a similar device for this petrol 1,2litre, turbocharged, 110bhp engine - I have only seen the OBD plug-ins. So until I find something similar to that I had before I'll leave it. And, since the car has only covered 3500km (2000miles), perhaps it'll loosen up a bit more anyway.

The manufacturers claimed mileages are rarely achievable in real life, but once it has been run in a little they may improve.
