ESJ94S Rocker Gasket

Post by PC2CV »

I set about fixing the rocker cover oil leak my C5 has and removed the rocker covers. It is the ES9J4S v6 with 2 aluminium rocker covers, and 2 plastic ones. For the aluminium ones i used Loctite 5980, however im wondering about the 2 plastic covers as they had a gasket in there:

Citroens servicebox isnt showing any seperate gasket for the rocker covers, would the loctite 5980 replace a gasket?

Yes, just use the same product. Make sure that you make the bead tall enough to seal the gap.

I've done the job but had a couple of covers that have continued to leak.

When I removed the covers that were leaking the sealant still hasn't fully cured. When applying it I made sure the area was fully cleaned and degreased, applied a good bead and then waited for 25 minutes, installed the covers then waited at least a week to let it cure. In actual fact its probably a few weeks since they were applied. The plastic cover especially where the sealant went into the gap for the old gasket was the sealant still was quite soft.

Should I keep the covers out in the air for longer to let it cure more before bringing them to the car?

I use a wurth sabesto rtv (grey color) seal around all cam cover (4 pcs). When I sealing i have a two step torque first after put a rtv in the cam cover and put it to engine i waiting for 30 minutes and start pre torque after that 20 minutes start a full torque. I stay the car 2 days for waiting rtv dry. No leak again

The 2 step process and waiting for a day or 2 is a better way. It is possible that oil got to that silicone and mixed with it before it cured PC2CV
