New DRL'S fitted to the C5 mk1.

Post by waynedance »

Been after some round lights for ages to fit in the bumper as below. May not be o everyone's taste but it's an idea to other mk1 owners...is there many here?

Image

Daytime mode.

Half brightness with headlights on.

And with fogs on.

Did have a better fog switch but the terminals were rubbish so had make do with the one above. Took the swith apart and fitted some tape to the inside as the led was to bright, lights up at the rear of the switch as seen which is OK.

Mmm what's next running out of ideas..

Recently fitted led lights under the front dash and back under front seats to add some ambient lighting came with remote to change colours.

Definitely like the look of those. I was thinking of putting something similar on as fog/spot lights. Do you have a link to the seller and some details of wiring them in?

I had previous drl but no fogs, so wiring was in place for them. I already had a relay from ebay which switches them to half brightness. The drl are wired via a relay with a direct live feed from the terminal near the battery and the switch for the relay is taken from the fuel pump fuse in the engine bay so the only run with engine running.

The fogs use the same live feed to a relay with a wire running from the side light circuit into the car to the dash switch so they only work with side light on.

Did that make sense?

Hi Wayne - you have a p.m.
If this does not interest you, please advise and I will try and find a local auto electrician who will not rip me off.

Your car is lovely. Lights are nice but I don't use lights much. What are the details of your car with engine and mileage etc?

2.2 hdi done 140k.

The 2.2 gets frowned upon by some but in the 80k I have had it its never been a problem really but i do look after it. Oil every 6k running on original dpf and turbo and get good mpg 600 miles + per tank.

Waynedance,

can you elaborate on the under dash lighting please maybe with some pics?
I'm still working on a Pedal Camera but I'm having some issues with lighting the drivers foot well
on my MK2 C5 up at night, don't want it to be to bright but then again not to dim.
your coloured light system my just be the ticket, bearing in mind that these lights need to be on whilst driving and reflection
onto the roof can be a bit distracting. Ive been looking for some small strips of self adhesive leds but my brain is not well electronic orientated.

I mounted a IR illuminator under the drivers seat but to be honest its pretty useless, its supposed to have a range of 20 meters with 42 IR bulbs
but it only lights up behind my legs and I cannot see the pedals on the screen, I get a better pic on the camera using a small led torch
but battery time is ltd and its a pain to have to keep fiddling around in the dark to switch it on or change batteries.
Ideally it will be rigged to a ciggy lighter socket so it comes on with the ignition as does the camera and cctv display screen.

I have been considering mounting a number plate light under the seat instead but I'm worried about the heat from a 4 watt bulb
being used inside a plastic housing inside the car, these housings are usually meant to be mounted outside.

thanks in advance.

Nigel.

Have got a complete bumper with working fogs mounted in it if you want it Jim.

will probably need painting though to your colour.

are these driving lamps or fog lamps?

regards.

Thanks Nigel but I'm OK for bumpers at the moment... Also, having sued the fogs in anger several times recently I'm very reluctant to change them into DRLs now...
