206 Problems

Unread post by Tam »

Hi guys,
My daughter has asked me to "Look" at her 2006 206 Sport 1.4
It was running fine until yesterday then the ABS light came on.
I took it a short run and the EML came on, went into "Limp" mode with the display showing "Pollution Fault" and " Catalytic Converter Fault"
Any ideas where to start? Could the latter 2 be caused by a faulty coil pack?

Thanks in advance

The first thing you need to do is to get it onto a Planet Peugeot system. Anything you do until you run a diagnostics session will be a guess, and will just eat money.

Make sure to get a good system (there are cheap clones that may not have everything you need. Easy Diagnostics are not cheap, but they are reliable. If you mention that you are a member of the French Car Forum they may well knock off the cost of P&P.

Anti pollution fault could mean anything - it's a vague, general message which acts more as a hint to get the car looked at, rather than pointing to any specific issue.

That's where diagnostics comes in handy, codes and data are what we need :)

Is there any reason why you're suggesting the coil pack?

Hmm, me thinks I'll print this off for my step-daughter, who in fairness is well entitled to be sick of her 'R' plate 106 diesel, having run it and a Mk1 for about 10years now

....but she does enjoy the cheapness with which it can be repaired and knows I'll be shy of repairing anything later & computerised.

Once again, a new (er) 206 has been put off while she chooses to spend her money on something else (its a Wedding this time) and I've breathed a bit of a sigh of relief.

Good luck with the Diagnostics !

Me... Luddite, yeah, guess so ! What'll I do when (if) my 405 wears out?!

Only reason was the sluggishness of the drive as that what happened with my Pic and a CP replacement fixed it. I guess it would be sluggish anyway in "Limp" mode. It was just a stab in the dark :-D

I see 2 options, which should I be looking at? One is 140 and the other is 108 and i'm unsure of the differences :?

Thanks again

If you are planning on helping to fix PSA vans you will want the extra module, but if not, the normal £108 unit will do. If, at a later date, you find you need that module you can purchase it separately.

Ok, as I need to wait till pay day for a lexia/PP I decided to have a visual at the coil pack. Without even getting that far, there is a thin hose that has to be removed which has yellow clips on it. This was broken in a few places but taped together and the tape came loose. Any ideas what this pipe is called? I will post a pic once I've taped it together again to see if it helps then buy a new one(Hopeless with uploading pics though). Unsure what it's called.

If you can get it down to me in Lanark I can run the diag on it.

Found that hose I think - is it under a cover connecting the rocker cover to the air filter box?If so, it's probably this one, but I'd need the last 8 digits of the VIN to confirm:

Reference Description Quantity Price - VAT Price + VAT Total + VAT Selection
00001192WZ OIL VAPOR HOSE 27.94 GBP 33.53 GBP 33.53 GBP

That would appear to be it - there are a few on e-bay, eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Peuge ... xyOlhS1RBI

Do a head test, you'd be surprised what a leaking head can do
Different car, my xsara 1.4i had similar issues even garage was stuck then i went old school did a bubble test and hey presto head gasket was on its way , changed ,all good after that.
Husky. :? Thinking outside of the box is better than sitting in a dark one.
