C5 X7 tyre pressure monitoring
I was reading about how the system works and soon found out that there are potential problems, often resulting from leaks or faults. I am just about to have fitted 4 new tyres (Goodyear efficientgrip performance) and I am thinking of having new sensors fitted at the same time. On eBay they are available at about £6 each. I'm unsure what do do - what's the recommendation? I have had the car for a year and have had the warning on the same wheel 4 or 5 times, always putting it down to a slow puncture which wasn't worth fixing in view of the tyre's end-of-life anyway. But now I suspect the problem could be a leak or a fault.
If I do decide to have the tyre fitters change the sensors (good or bad idea?) then does some software setting have to be changed? It seems a sensible time to renew the sensors.

Re: C5 X7 tyre pressure monitoring
It could be the stem leaking.
There is a nut on the stem which can loosen....try tightening it up. You can check it by rotating the wheel so the valve is on the road edge, apply 50/50 washing-up liquid and water see if it bubbles.

Re: C5 X7 tyre pressure monitoring
I wouldn't get them done at a tyre fitters personally, there is a procedure to get these programmed and working on the X7 - see below:rmunns wrote:If I do decide to have the tyre fitters change the sensors (good or bad idea?) then does some software setting have to be changed? Programming / Initialisation
A programming procedure is compulsory fo the following components:
- Wheel Transmitter Module
- Main set of wheel transmitter modules
- One additional set of wheel transmitter modules
Programming Procedure:
- Overinflate the wheel to be programmed to 3.7 Bars
- Wait one minute
- Deflate the wheel to reach the standard inflation pressure recommended by the manufacturer
- Fit the special 'Tyre Inflation Valve Forcing tool' onto the valve in order to inform the tool of the new pressure value in the wheel.

These aren't the sensors, they are the valve repair kits Roger and are about £6rmunns wrote: I am thinking of having new sensors fitted at the same time. On eBay they are available at about £6 each.
These are the TPMS Sensors and they are a tad under £60 as Vab says:

Re: C5 X7 tyre pressure monitoring
No mention of an exciter needed. Or is that what the forcer is? AFAIK an exciter is simply held neat to a TPMS valve and then operated. Is it not needed now?

That's what is listed for the X7 Paul, they don't seem to mention the 'Exciter' - and they need to be paired to the car using the Lexia when fitting new sensors according to the Docs.

Re: C5 X7 tyre pressure monitoring
Wonder what's involved with this forcer? The exciter is basically a low powered transmitter on a low frequency (125KHz IIRC) which prompts the TPMS to signal to the onboard car system. I'm wondering if it's the same thing? Is there a reference to a trade name for this exciter such as Protoctair?

Re: C5 X7 tyre pressure monitoring
Or something called Testair as the Protoctair mini seems to be NLA?

No it just mentions as per what I've put in quotes - no mention of names...

Re: C5 X7 tyre pressure monitoring
I'll have another dig later to see if there are differences between the MK1 / MK2 and the X7 procedures.

Re: C5 X7 tyre pressure monitoring
I had a flash of common sense (unusual for me!). (I guess this is an obvious thing to do) - I just used some detergent water and a brush, to check if there is a leak anywhere near the valves. I can't see any, so hopefully I really do have a slow puncture in the one tyre.
