How in the blazes do you tighten up the nut on the track rod end? I've had it spinning the balljoint for fun, tried all manner of pry bars, cant get a clamp over the assembly, the nuts just up to the nylock

any chance of getting a G clamp? with maybe a ball bearing at the nut end? or something on it to squeeze the taper into place, unless its the wrong taper angle........

no torx in the end of the threaded section? some have them and I think some don't..

try removing the nyloc (if possible) and doing up with a non nyloc until tight, and then nyloc?


I have , as a desperate measure, had some luck gently hitting the top of the TRE and tightening at the same time ...

Plain nut, a nice loose old one, then the lock nut.

I just squeeze them with a pair of water pump pliers - but pulling up the taper with a plain nut first can do it.

If you use a plain nut first do you then double nut it or remove and then fit the nylock?

Hopefully get it sorted in the light, the 206 ones had the nut on top so were a doddle!

I would try and do it up and remove it, if that fails do it up and back it up with mr nylock

I use about a 4' crow bar, press down on the joint/rod as hard as you can, it will usually go.

Used my pry bar and got it nice and snug, then noticed i've slightly bent the inner rod :-/ its only a small curve though. Better than no steering!!

two options one is a good slap of a hammer should hold in place or you could use an impact driver.

When you've been at it a bit trying the less violent methods the red mist descends

And i snapped the bloody abs post yesterday too, nipped it up and it didnt seem snug so gave it a small turn and snapped it clean. Bastard.
