My Cars: Citroens since 1990, BX Diesel, GTI, TZD with 1.9 TD running extra boost before it was fashionable!, ZX Volcane TD, S2 Xantia break 1.9TD, Xantia HDI 110, currently zipping about in a C2 Diesel. C2 died from the dreaded worm, C3 Picasso HDI Exclusive, the adventure continues.

The saga continues, trying to keep my mates Xantia S1 on the road, brake pipe flexibles need replacing, unions siezed, steel pipe wasted to nothing where they join, it snapped :evil: even after gentleness, heat and plusgas were all anointed in the prescribed manner, can anyone confirm that this pipe is indeed 4.5mm diameter ? and is there a link to a suitable diagram of the brake pipes, I suppose my chances of finding an offside pipe are slim to bugger all.
Also, where the steel pipe meets the flexi, is that a normal brake pipe flare ? I have a cunning plan where a compression fitting is involved :twisted:

You could try this sticky here started by Kenny W. I made my little contribution with a bit of diagram of the Xantia S1 non-sinker back end about three or four posts down. I think there are a few diagrams from service citroen posted up too.

There are not 4.5mm but 4.76mm or 3/16" piping with a bubble type flare and 10mm x1.00mm thread. I've just some pipes but not fitted to car yet.

How urgent is this?

They are a flare popular on merc's but they used on the biggar citroen pipes hp hydraulic pump and pressure regulator. It's called F 180 look at this site www.beepro.de who have a tool which makes them all.

Looking at Maclolm Lockwoods web catalogue http://mlockwood.org.uk/ I will call him tomorrow, I reckon he has what I need.

FYI

part no 488671 4.75mm L 924mm still available cost £12.96
part no 4886F6 4.75mm L 1774mm NFP

Ignore the above,that's for my version. It appears most of the pipes are NFP. But worth acheck for your variant

I have checked all the parts catalogues. You are out of luck. There are no woes listed for your brake pipes

Thanks for the replies, Kenny especially :) knowing that its an imperial pipe makes a lot of difference.
My woes may yet be eased 8-)

Stewart,

I have got a pipe with a normal bubble flare ont it and the right male ends which I've tested on new front flexible hoses and the fit is fine.

I will not know if it seals correctly until on the car. The weather is awful so it won't be happening soon.

Kenny, is it standard 'bubble' flares at both ends of the pipe? I assume the other end goes straight to the ABS block. Is this correct?

Jim,

Yes my pipe goes direct to the abs but it is not the standard bubble flares. It's a half a bubble flare with a flat (180 degree) face at pipe end. I'm going to try the standard bubble flare but I don't know if it will seal. It's an experiment and it will be easier if it works to get the pipes.
If you look at www.beepro.de site they make a hand held brake tool which makes all flares including the early c5 flare.

As you suggested in another thread invest i a tool and I think it will be this one.

Ive got recovered brake pipes in the shed .. I recovered a few off cars that went.. nothing was left on them... if nothing comes up for you..
