C5 Main beam problem

Unread post by 1900sr »

If this has been covered I apologise, but I couldn't find anything on a search here, or on Google.

I've got a 2002 C5 Estate, and as of last night it's seems to have developed a fault with the headlamps. The main beam intermittently turns itself off. Basically put the main beam on, and quite often a few seconds later the car goes back to dip beam. When you turn on everything seems normal, the blue light on the dash comes on as it should, and when they turn off it's just as if I've turned it back myself, the blue light goes back out and the car goes back to dipped beam.

Has anyone else had this, or got any ideas please?

Comms 2000 unit. BSI reset. battery on the way out. Plenty threads on search. I don't have that car but these three thing seem to be a common starting point.

Comms200 is the "normal fault" seen for this behaviour. I would try a switch first just in case, never heard of the battery being the problem with this fault.

The is a guy who fixes them.

Thanks for the replies. The car has been fine since, so I'm hoping it was just a glitch. If not I'll try the switch first, although I'm not convinced it's that.

Since found the problem rears it's ugly head when the lights are on manual rather than auto setting. I did have it up for sale but can't sell it with the fault. It's going for scrap I'm afraid.

If you declare the fault, I'm sure that there are potential buyers who won't be deterred by the need for a fairly simple repair (Comm 2000 from a breaker's).

Fairly simple repair if you've got access to Lexia to reprogramme it afterwards, as the car has ESP. To be honest I've decided to buy new and Vauxhall will give me £2000 "Scrappage" for it, and combined with the other deals available I'm going to do that.

I'd be surprised if it's just the switch given the fact it's only a problem when the lights are on manual, works fine when the lights are on auto. Besides, those awfully nice Vauxhall people have decided that it's worth £2000 in scrappage against a new car so that's where it's going.

Depending on which vauxhall you are buying, but our local vauxhall dealer gives from £2000 to £7000 off the price of a new one so your 2000 "scrappage" possibly leaves you worse off. Go to a different dealer and ask for a big discount off a new one the same and see what happens.

Does that price include a fire extinguisher?

But of course you will always get random failures like this.
