st st stuttering 2004 c5 hdi

Post by zs&tas »

Hello ! Thought id start this up for help, a chat and it maybe of use to others.
So far the car has started to stutter, seemed to be under hard acceleration but now inconsistently in any condition , it will go with out a problem then do it again. It feels like the brakes are momentarily on, then in an instant off again. Its had a tank of fuel with cleaner and an italian tune up, but its still bad.
Seems a lack of power (its the 138)
I cant access my friends computer so a mans coming tmrw to do it. His first thought on the phone was the diesel filter ?
Lets see what the computer checks out.......

I'm having a similar issue with mine.

It's very intermittent and often unrelated to driving style, speed etc. Most advice is the diesel fuel filter so will be changing mine this weekend.

Gd to hear I guess, would have thought it would have caused more consistent problems though. I think my filter is 10k and one year on it.

If its the filter it will usually fail at times of high fuel demand or going up hill.

75k would almost certainly do it - there's no LP pump on these so it has to suck through the filter.

Well, just replaced the fuel filter, not that difficult.

Now it won't start.....!!!!!

Everything's reconnected and initially it started but then immediately cut out. Now it won't start at all. Cranks ok but seems like it's not getting fuel.

Any suggestions, I need the car for work in the morning so getting a bit desperate.....

Have you a primer bulb on top of the engine ?
got an air leak ? does the tank pump (if you have) run ?

yes, i primed it until the bulb went hard

now if i do it and leave it a few minutes the bulb is soft again!

it just started then cut out straight away and wont start again

cant think whats happened, all seemed so easy

is it possible the HP pump is not working? is there a fuse?

UPDATE:

Just checked all connectors (again), primed with the bulb, and it started after a couple of seconds......!!

This time I floored the accelerator when it started and it stuttered but carried on running at about 2000rpm for a few minutes.

Then left it idle for about ten minutes and now it starts fine again......

Weird.....

Thanks for the advice, appreciate i was panicking a bit.....
