Xantia return pipes- Part 5270N5

Post by lazza »

HI

Does anyone know where I can get hold of the set of Xantia hydraulic hose return pipes part 5270N5? It costs almost 200€ from Citroen here! This seems absurd for a few bits of rubber pipe....

Any suggestions most welcome

Thanks

err- have to take a picture i think. Hard to explain. It comes out of the hydraulic reservoir then there is a kind of 3 or 4 way connector of which several tubes leave, one of which goes to the return on the pinion valve.. if i get the chance tomorrow i'll send you a pic

I know the one Larry, it's informally known as the octopus...

That one is going to be expensive whichever way you look at it and a complete ***** to swap too...

Depending on where it's gone you may be able to effect a repair by replacing the bad bit with a metal tube.

Where has it failed and how?

Edit: Your picure is the one.. See why it's called an octopus now can't you!

They will be NFP in the UK no doubt now... though, I should have one, or two, with every front subframe or Xantia I stripped down.

Are you wanting new or a good used one??

HI, in reply to Jim: The octupus failed at the pinion valve. I cut off the end with the split part and squezzed the tube back on- it's just long enough. However on examining it, most of the tube is cracked and probably only a matter of time until it fails again. I havent looked at the rest of it.

Not very encouraged that it may be so difficult to change though- i'll try to inspect it all when i get the chance and see if I could maybe do some kind of patching.

Otherwise, i'll buy one of those from citroenxm and wrestle with the octopus!

Cheers

And NO mine wont be 85 quid!! :P

Let me know and Ill sort it out!

Interestingly, I had this wrestle recently with a S1, I had to remove cut and refit three times! I ended up bending the return pipe slightly to reach, but the pipe kept splitting. I did a temperay fix for the owner as he intends to get rid next month...

A left hooker will have a shorter pipe from the steering to reservoir anyway.

I've posted before about carefully cutting away the black plastic overmoulds on the junctions; this reveals ivory coloured unions you can fit ordinary fuel line onto, with the aid of clic clamps or jubilee clips.

Thats a point Addo, Lazza, is yours a UK car living over there with you, or a LHD Spanish car??

Dont think it matters, I think it will just mean you will have more return pipe to play with from the Rack Return..

No, it simplifies the job. The return hose is shorter than a RHD car, and furthermore the doseur doesn't leak into the cabin...

That's got to be an advantage :-D I've had a Xantia do that. What a mess it made
