It will be level 2 igniter. There are 2 igniters in the air bag (level 1 and 2). Most likely the ribbon cable in the COM2000 has failed. Might be repairable, otherwise replacement, which ranges from £100 - £300 depending on model and source of replacement.

If it should happen again which bag does it refer to, seat or steering wheel? I know where the seat connectors are but not the s/w one is in case it just needs cleaning, appreciate any info.

It's the bag in the wheel. The problem is the 'COM2000' which is the unit that sits behind and consists of the column stalks, and the rotary connector for the air bag and horn. You can try cleaning the contacts, but it doesn't seem to suffer like that - it's just that the ribbon cable breaks up over time....

Any ideas where I can get a cheap repair to get through the MOT, Or can I purchase the part cheaply and get the DIY Instructions from your good selves to do it.

Contact this chap, Graeme Hall... he's in Bradford but you can remove your comm 2000 and send it to him, or take your car to him and he will do it while you wait..

Remove battery, remove airbag, disconnect airbag and steering wheel radio controls , remove steering wheel. The comm 2000 has one, maybe 2 10mm bolts to undo and some plugs. Then it lifts out.

May well be the connectors under the carpet in the passenger footwell, very common problem & a lot cheaper than a com2000.

Can be either level one or two, both the connectors are there for each. The car was desinged as LHD. Those connectors are where the airbag loom is extended over for RHD. The fault code means there is a fault on the circuit & it could be anywhere between the airbag ECU & the airbag itself, the two weakest points are those connectors or the rotary ribbon cable in the com2000. The ECU or the airbag itself could even be faulty but the cheapest place to start is the footwell connectors.
